2002 Protege5 Instrument Cluster warning lights

I pulled the instrument cluster to replace the bulbs with LEDs and when I re-installed the cluster and started the car, none of the warning lights lit up. Don't they usually come on in test mode when you first turn on the ignition? All of the other lights like the speedo, tack, mileage, gear indicator, turn signals and high beams lit up.

I put the original bulbs back in the cluster but the warning lights still didn't come on. I couldn't even get the brake light to light up when I pulled the hand brake.
Hope I didn't fry part of the circuit board somehow.

Anyone know a way to "bench test" the light operation?
Thanks for any help!

IIRC, the cluster has two multi-pin connectors. I wonder if the missing warning lights are all in *one* of the two connectors. Maybe you can plug in the connectors and wiggle them a bit and see if any lights come on?
