my 06 2.3 threw a rod , i have a 2007 2.0 engine that spun bearings at 70k miles ( swapped engine for friend last year )

have both engines apart in garage

2.3 block is shot , and 1 rod

i was thinking could use 2.3 crank / balance shaft delete as the 2.0 does have oil port nor holes for it , new rods / pistons / rings and having shop check block to make sure when bearings spun didnt do any unseen damage

anybody try this ?

recommendations ?

seeing a 2.3 engine is $1300+ used and no real warranties , and a 2.0 engine would require new harness, pcm, and , keys flashed cost to benefit is tight in all aspects .

do not plan on keeping car for too much longer

Look up ford fusion engines on ebay, about 600.00 less than the mazda ones, same engine, upgrade to 2.5 fusion engine, even better.

if you can get a 2.5, get the 2.5. its a MUCH better engine. oh, and the 2.3 internals will not work inside a 2.0.

yes i have both blocks , 2.0 has oil valleys where the balance shaft would mount , also the 2.3 piston journals are little over 1/4" longer , externally the same other than a few wire harness differences . i ended up picking up a 2.3 longblock rebuilt with 15k miles for $550!!!!!!
