1977 Toyota Celica GT: Any words of wisdom?

Those are so cool Fadi! There's one that runs around where we live...it is suhweeet!

What you need to do is make it look like this:

With this engine (18RG DOHC 8 valve...This one has ITB w/FI...But you can get carbs to go on the cheap side):

A 3T-GTE (Turbo), 2T-G, 3TC, or any 20-22R engine fits w/no fab work to the xmember...I remember a guy had one w/a 22R turbo motors from an old turbo truck, and there's also some with S2000 motors...Those were fast.

If anyone is in Long Beach, CA on May 3, there's a Toyotafest going on @ the queen mary...It's now overrun w/scions, but there are still a few diehards w/older toyotas.

Check out for more pictures of the celica:

How easy are they to work on? Anything a potential owner should look for? Does it have disk or drum brakes? I know it's got manual steering, which is ok.

Never answered your questions... It's pretty easy to work on, I'd check http://www.celicas.org/ or http://forums.celicas.org/ there's a few out there.

I believe it has the 18RC motor, which is nothing to brag about a webber 32/36 carb w/a header & exhaust should help. If you're going ITB, I'd suggest getting a 3TC motor...More parts to find. Toyota sent the crappy motors to the US, and left all the JDM goodness in Japan. Most old celicas/corollas/toyotas have rear drum brakes w/front disk. Alot are interchangeable between models...Just make sure you get parts from a RWD Toyota....I think the supra brakes are upgrades...

As far as the manual steering...It's an old/light weight car, no need for power steering...

Ditch those bumpers and find some smiley bumpers :)

Oh, lug pattern is 4x114, so tons of rims to choose from...You can go to the junkyard and find some old school supra rims dirt cheap or 280zx rims.

[off topic] So apperently my friend and her husband decided they want to keep the Volvo :( [/off topic]

That extruded IRTB looks pretty interesting. I love the modular design.

not an issue since it's out of state and I wouldn't get it until Aug/Sept anyways... I had dreams of putting in a 1.8l out of a Miada. Eh, life goes on. There will be plenty of other project cars to work on. I'm still on the lookout for a rust free 77/78 Firebird.
