17x8 Wheels on Protege

A lot of people said that 17x8 couldn't fit on our cars but some of us tried it out for REAL and with success. I just put on my 17" TSW Nogaro Wheels which are 17x8 with a 40mm offset on 215/40R17 Nankang Ultra Sport NS-II tires on stock suspension, no drop or nothing.

Tires will rub slightly when I have more than 300 pounds in the back seat going over moderately bumpy roads (And we have very bad roads as it is in Quebec). It's only the rear tires that rub. When there is nobody in the back seat, I can take turns as fast as I want without rubbing.

i don't think anyone said they wouldn't fit, they would just rub... Plus you're at stock ride height, lower your car and then we'll talk...

If I lower the car, add some camber and adjust a few things it can work better than what I actually have right now. AWR had their P5 pace car with a big drop with 18x8 40mm offset and Anthony said that it was better dropped with camber for wheel and tire clearance.

I have a 2003 MSP with 17 x 8 Enkei RPF-1's. The fenders are rolled and I am on coilovers as well. You are going to have run neg camber front and rear and run a 235/40/17 tire.

so are you saying that if i mount 215/40 17s on my 17x7 +40 offset wheels, that i would rub too? i'm dropped on an eibach prokit and currently running 205/40 17s, but was going to order 215s and have them mounted this weekend. might need to reconsider and stay with 205s if there's a chance i'll rub on 215s. please let me know asap!!! thanks!

If you don't rub with 205/40/17 then you shouldn't rub with the 215's even with the eibach pro-kit. Do you actually rub with the current tires? I rub on the inside when I have the passengers in the back but besides that, I don't and you have the same offset as me with 1 inch narrower wheel, same tire but with a drop. I would say no but I am not an expert; I'm just going with common sense. If you rub though, you can always get a camber kit to help with clearance.

I have 215/50/17,it rubs like a mother f...,no passenger in the back, just crossing a bump and there you go that ugly noise of the tries rubbing, tried to roll the fenders but i have to do it the right way.(uhm)

Ya that must be quite tight. I had 205/50/17 mounted on Mazda 3 GT rims before the ones I have now and there was barely any wheel gap.

I'll be running 225/50/R16 on a 47 offset 16x8 and with a light roll I don't expect rubbing.

on that exact setup except 45 series tires, I did rub, so yes. only barely, but it rubbed.
i've been told that 215/50 17s are too tall on a protege, and that the tallest usable size are 215/45s
215/45 is MSP sized... I wouldn't go bigger, but realistically you probably could.

you can fit anything with the right tools lol
the only main problem is rubbing, but if your trying to fit anything over a 7.5" wide wheel you should roll your fenders anyways, not hard or time consuming at all and well worth it

and to the OP, of course you dont rub, your tires are miles away from your fender (rofl)

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Get that thing lowered ASAP.

yes, lower that thing a good amount and you will see some rubbing. Ive got two different 17x8 setups

my rpf1s +45 with 235/40/17 and my BBS with +38 and 215/45/17
this is what happens with people in the back

so what options do we have for negative camber in the rear? I love my fd wheels with 245/60/16 up front but there was no way that combo was going to work in the rear with my height and not having camber adjustment.

i have searched for awhile now and came up empty.

BC told me that they make rear camber plates but when i called them a few months later to buy them they told me that they have never and will never be making them.

Ksport is the only coilover setup i know of that has rear camber plates, wonder if they just sell the plates and if so, if they would work with the BC's

AWR had a set too... there was a set that popped up here not too long ago, not sure if they still make em new though.

I've begged AWR to make me a set but no dice. No longer produced. Ksport to my knowledge does not offer rear adjustment.

You can use crash bolts in the upright. I'm making my own rear plates and adj. lower arms to solve the camber issue.

Use a smaller bolt on one of the struts bolts and crank them down. They wont go anywhere I do it all the time. Or like mentioned you can wallow the strut holes out for adjustment. I might end up doing it myself to my car since Im workin on new wheels and wanna go with a 2354017 or 2254018
