17inch vs 18inch

:
2007 Black MS6GT
did a search but didnt find anything, how would 17inch wheels with beefier tires work with this car vs 18inch, i read the whole size chart sticky thread but still couldnt find reveiws of 17s.

I imagine going with 17's you could probably save a bit more weight. It looks like you might eliminate that weight savings with a taller series of tire though. I can see why you would go with a taller tire... speedometer being off is a pain in the ass.

I have (lighter) 17"wheels with 225/45 tires. It made noticeable difference for me compared to the stock setup. Acceleration is definitely faster! Less weight/rotational mass

Cant tell you much about the handling because i went with "performance all season" tires...
but i dont push the corners too hard anyways, never know what is on the bends (oil, antifreeze, sand etc...)

stock tires would be much better of course.

And my car is lowered too so its looks fine by me!

beefy... not really, well... depends on your goals.
is it to auto-x or just to drive to and from work?

WHen we get to the point that I can afford a set of winter rims/tires for the MS6, I'll probably go wtih 17-inch rims and taller tires. Our roads here get pretty rough during the winter due to the constant freeze-unfreeze cycle of our winters. Potholes are TERRIBLE. Going with a taller tire on a smaller rim in the winter would protect me more from potholes, AND maintain the ground clearance I have for going through snow. Oh, and soften the ride. :)

I have a 17" winter set up with 225 50 17's and the ride is just perfect IMHO, softer than the stock 18's but not too "mushy"

VRspeedemon -- what brand of tire are you using for the winter? Looking to do the same thing with our ride...
