16 x 7 or 17 x 7...

My tax return is due shortly and I'am going to purchase new rims and tires. ( From Rishie, of course! So be ready for a call from me shortly, Rishie! ) Anyway, I'm not too concerned about look's, I really want performance, light weight, strength, low cost and something that won't shake at 70mph and above. (Like some of the other wheel's I've purchased.) I had 17's before, but, they were really heavy and slowed the car down quite a bit. I do like the look of 17's, but should I go with 16 x 7's so as not to slow the car down so much? Or is there a 17 x 7 rim-tire combo that is lighter than the factory 16's? Or should I just leave it alone? Thank you in advance.

I don't think you'll have a problem getting lighter than factory. The stock 16's with tires weigh in the neighborhood of 30 Lbs a piece. I'd say depending on cash flow, go with a set of rota's, OZ's, or some volks.

don't mean to hijack your thread but what is the offset on our stock 16"? If you move up to 16x7's what would be a good offset with a PR5 lowered with springs?

Umm I have some wheels in stock that are lightweight but they are white. You can get 17's to weigh the same as your stock 16" combo.

I do have suggestions and you don't have to go 16's as it will limit your style options.

More like 38 lbs for each OE wheel/tire combo (16 lb wheel, 22 lb tire.) Really not that bad, for stock.

you can see my 16" Rota Slipstreams on my web site. They're fantastic wheels.... 13.5 lbs ea.

No vibrations at all.

If you're feeling vibrations, I think that means that you need to have your wheels balanced. It's my understanding that a balance wheel and tire should never shake and if something shakes and your wheels/tire are balanced, it could be something else.
