15x7in vs 15x7.5in wheels

Question for those who might know:

Any reason the 7.5in 6UL's seem to be more popular? It's not a size I see very often in other wheels.

I only ask because the color I want is sold out in 7.5in but available in 7in. For the time being I was going to run 205 tires so I think (?) the 7's would be fine. Is there a particular tire that fits perfectly on 7.5's and that's why they're being snapped up by racers? Is it just popular on the Miata for some reason and that's why it sold out? Or should I get on the waiting list for the 7.5's?

Educate me :)

One reason might be because that's the size legal for a few Autocross Classes, STF being one of them.

I'm looking to go with the 15x8 6uls for a more stanced/flush fitment. shouldn't have any problems with clearance or rubbing even on coils...at least I hole as much. if you look at some of Andres pictures his 15x7.5 can tuck but aren't very flush...

Stock wheels on my MS3 were 18x7 and came with 215s, although I later upgraded to 225s before getting new rims. Couldn't you run 215s on a 15x7? I don't care about herrafrush, but I seriously doubt the 2 could break lose good rubber in 215s with 100 hp.

I think it has a lot to do with the "best bang for the buck" factor. IMO. That extra half inch allows you to go wider on the tire. One of the better options from a speedometer accuracy standpoint is the 225/45/15... which would obviously fit better on a 7.5" wheel compared to a 7". Another reason might be that from 7 to 7.5 you only jump .1 pounds... where the 8 wide runs almost a full pound heavier. Just a couple of thoughts.
