You should be able to get the car at $500 under dealer invoice, plus any other rebates out there (if you choose not to go with 0% APR for 5 years). Go to www.edmunds.com to get the dealer invoice and go from there. Dealers are practically giving these cars away.

people can tell you this or that but really it comes down to where you live...welcome to the board! i paid 16055 for mine with just about zero options :(...but then again i owed like 3000 more on my old car when i traded it in then it was worth, so i prolly ended up paying like 14.5

Got mine in may with only a $1750 rebate. They came down to $14500 immediately when I walked in with all the local pricing info, rebate info and edmunds. This was for a 2003.5 with no options. I ended up with a 2003.5 w/ 5spd and ABS/sideairbags for $14500, they threw in the cargo net and wheel locks too.

Is it 2003 or 2003.5? 2003.5 has the leather wrapped steering wheel and the subwoofer in the spare tire. Proabably closer to $14000 now. The rebate is at $2000-2500 depending on location.

Interesting...

About a week ago I was hearing, and seeing commercials for a dealership about an hour from. Base models(I am assuming on the protege we are talking) are going for 12000, before any insentives or promos from Mazda. I havent heard any commercials in the last week but some buddies of mine have, they have also advertised some ES models for 14,000 LOADED with everything. roof, 6 disk, abs, the works.

But as far as price, it will does depend on your area, at least were I live prices can be different by 2 or 3 grand city to city...its pretty screwed up here.

That sounds like a pretty good deal. Considering dealers are pretty much giving them away now, how cheap do you think they will be when there are just a hand full left on the lots, sitting right next to the 3's. At that point they will damn near pay buyers to take them home. Oh well, I got a great deal anyways, and I love my car beyond belief.

Dunno...had the S plan (?) discount for working at Goodyear, $500 for my wife finishing her masters, and $2500 in rebates. He wanted me to pay $16.8 for it which was a good deal but I went through a couple salesguys and a manager and walked out the door for $15.4. Sales tax is 6.5% where I live and title is $40 so...

$15.4 - 6.5% (of purchase price) -$40 title & license =the original purchase price.

Check all the newspaper ads for your surrounding area, and look for what the special price is offered on a P5. That's usually a 5 sp with no options. Then go to Edmunds.com and find out what the moonroof goes for, both invoice and msrp for the option. Ask your dealer to match the advertised price plus a fair amount for the moonroof package (say split the diff between invoice and msrp for that).

The dealer should agree to that, and still make money. If they whine, go elsewhere.

On the 2003 or 2003.5 difference I meant that you should get a better deal on the 2003 since it has been on the lot for 6 months. Sorry I meant leather shift knob(MT) in my earlier post. I bought mine from a dealer, the only one locally, that had only 2003.5 on the lot. I figured they must push quite a few off the lot and would give a good deal.
