Nice curve! Wow. Interested in your mods as well.

First off that nice smooth power curve is not from a Protege or P5 ECU. I have a MP3 ECU.

Performance mods:

MP3 ECU.
INJEN CAI
NOLOGY Hotwires
RACTIVE 4-1 header.
Jet-Hot ceramic coating inside & out of the header.
Mental Addiction Motorsports high flow catted midpipe.
MAGNAFLOW cat back exhaust.
FIDANZA light weight flywheel.

The last time I ran the dyno my max whp was 116.5. The only additions were the nology wires and the flywheel for an additional 2 ponies on the ground.

The numbers seemed a little low for everybody. Tony's Cobra usually runs around 450 whp and he was only at 430 to the rear wheels. Jay did a dynopac tune the night before with his new piggyback ecu and CP-E headers and was at 202 on his 6 wagon. At the shop on Saturday he didn't hit 190 on the dynojet. Tim with his white 6 was 182 whp and the last time he dyno'd with me he was at 184 whp.

So with that in mind I could possibly be at 120 whp. Next on my adgenda is custom ground cams and an MPI piggyback.

Mazda claims that the P5 is a 130 horsepowered car so I will have 130 to the ground and be all motor.
Screw that 95 whp crap from the factory.(ricer)

thats nice. no intake, huh? stock? thats pretty much where i plan on being, with the exception of the MP3 ecu. with that, i should be around 110-ish when i finally get my exhaust set-up on the car.

I was wondering what car you have and how much you have invested in your mods? I am curious because I am trying to decide if I should stay N/A or try and fork over money and time for a turbo kit. BTW, I have a 99 1.6L protege.

Thanks a ton.

Hmm...I'm at 116whp with intake, header, axle-back and both cams. The dyno was done a while ago though. I'm gonna be dynoing again with new full exhaust setup.

anyone i think will tell you that if you decided to pull power out of the car, a turbo kit is the easiest and most affordable way..w/ the most gains.. i think with the n/a it's gonna cost more.

Just boost the car. Na is like getting water from stone.

I want my car to run better, but I am not planning on racing. Just street driving. I only really want enough power to be able to play a little bit. Also, I am looking at a couple grand budget through the summer. Any suggestions? I know turbo is a lot more than this so I just dont think I can afford it. Plus the car itself is only work like 2600.

With that said, is it worth it to go turbo? Or should I just add some headers and intake?

it honestly depends man. you have a 99? it's gotta be worth more than 2600...damn..

but anyways, you can run @ low boost w/ a nice bump in power. it will cost you about 3k for a full kit. hopefully you're somewhat mechanically inclined, or know someone. people on the forums are always out to try and help.

if you feel like you can't afford it. i would go w/ an ems system. you're able to pull out more ponies and protect the motor. intake doesn't do a hell of a lot..just makes nice noise. headers and maybe some cams/cam gears/pulleys will give you some nice gains w/ the ems.

what are u guys running at the engine for comparision, as my dyno result was 137 with just an injen?

ps. how do i trace that to the wheels, i know the general rule of thumb is like 20bhp less aint it?

I wouldnt mind putting 3k into a kit if I could find one, but the only one I have heard of for the 1.6 is a hiboost for $4200. Also, the car retails for about $3600, but I could only sell it for about $2500 privately (edmunds.com).

PS - Sorry for threadjacking, thanks for the help.

hmm..how did you get an engine dyno??dynos usually read by the wheels dont they?

yer lol they do but my print out converts it back to the engine. and thats how its done at my motorsport garage, makes me feel better anyway lol

weird..i dunno i think it's between 15 and 25% difference to the wheels from the crank.
