100,000 mile club

i thought the timing belt had to be changed at 60k miles. i beat the hell out of my car though. im always reving high, i dont usually brake in turns(i brake if someone is in front of me, or if i know pedestrians are walking), and what not. do u guys drive ur cars hard. i haven't had any problems with mine, but i baby it, take really good care of it, and do all the required maintenace. i even rotate my tires love my emerald mica. im somewhere in 44800 miles.

technically yes they are supposed to be changed at 60k, but going over never hurt anything.. (shrug) i dont drive my car hard, just spiritedly(sp) its just a heap :) (not really but im pissed at it right now)

Really? I though it was 100K for change and inspect at 60K? You're the tech though...Gotta get mine and my friends done soon. Gonna prolly draft you for assistance.

you know I do too...but I also HATE the thought of someone else touching my car. And the amount of $$ it cost to get it done at a shop.

And I'd just like to see ya bending over all dirty working on the car :D

90k miles here with my 02.5 P5. Aside from the belt noise in cold it has no other problems. However I haven't touched the timing belt yet, I know it needs to be replaced soon. Brakes also needed to be done along with the rotor. The only problem I had with this car was the computer reprogramming several months ago, but I got it for free even my warranty ran out. I'm definitely getting winter tires this year, spun around in the first year and messed up my rear suspension and got stuck in the second year, I'm not taking any more chances...

The FS is a non-interference engine. The only bad thing that will happen if you don't change your timing belt as recommended is the possibility of it breaking, you being stranded, having to pay for a tow, etc. The engine will be otherwise fine.

I'm at around 75K. I'm expecting to change my spark wires, plugs, serpentine belts, and tires. just don't have enough money to get it replaced lol

For the record... Mazda recommends inspecting the timing belt at 60k miles and replacing it at 105k.

I had mine changed over the weekend, along with both drive belts and the water pump. $425 out the door, by the way. I didn't feel like messing with it all day myself.

I had planned on changing my timing belt at 105k, but put it off until my cams arrived. When it was at 118k and I hydrolocked the motor, the timing belt was doing fine. The waterpump belt, however, was looking sad again. It snapped at 45k and was due once again when I pulled the motor.

I do have a new waterpump and timing belt standing by. . . too bad it'll be another 3-4 years before I need it.

I have 79k on my 03 and havent had a problem. I need to replace the spark plugs and get an alignment but it has been a great car. I am driving it across country in a few weeks to pick it up from chicago. I think that the clutch might need to be replaced sometime in the near future it just doesnt grab like it used to. BTW i drive my car hard and put it away wet. All I've done so far is put gas, tires, and oil. Also brake pads and spark plugs. I use mobil 1 syn and change oil every 5000 miles and the spark plugs every 40k. I also used Zmax since I bought the car.
