'08 MS3 Bose No-Nav Head Unit Builder?

I've searched and searched, does anyone know who builds the Bose w/o Nav head unit? I'd like to be able to use an aftermarket Sirius receiver but can't find out which one should be compatible.

Sirius says, "buy it from Mazda".

I think its their proprietary connector.

PAC, Peripheral, or sound gate, may have an adapter but those are usually more expensive then just getting the tuner from Mazda.

To get full XM control via the head unit you would have to get the "Terk XMD1000 tuner" which that site says has been discontinued. You might be able to get one used on eBay or something. Otherwise, you can probably use the AUX input on that unit or any of the other units they sell...but when you use the AUX-input you've got to control the unit from its own face plate instead of the factory radio.

...but Mazda sells a tuner that you can just plug in. Contact your dealer and they can get it for you.

Doesnt really matter.
In any possibility, its all built to mazda specs.

No, it does really matter, I'm trying to hook a Phatbox to it and it isn't working!

Ok, then why did you ask about the SIRIUS tuner? chuyler1 and
1sty were giving you answers based on the idea that it was a SIRIUS tuner you were trying to hook up.

To answer your question then, Let's just say Mazda makes your radio , so you'll need the Mazda Phatbox cable. This was covered on the mazda3 forums awhile ago back in '06 by crane007. Topic: VW/Audi Phatbox install in a 2006 Mazda 3 (with pictures)

With that NOW clarified, did you check phathack.com and did you do the updates needed phor a phatbox VW/Mzda conversion?

Mazda Phatbox firmware
- Phatbox firmware needed for all Mazda 3 head units: http://downloads.phathack.com/sbingner/MZPHATSYS.zip
- Patch needed for 2006 Mazda 3's: http://downloads.phathack.com/sbingner/MazdaUpdate.zip

Hope this helps.
Also PM's you link

When I built the thread I was investigating putting in both a Sirius unit and the Phatbox, I've since given up on having both, have cut down a Phatbox, mounted it into an electronics enclosure and installed it in front of the spare tire with a Mazda 6 cable.

I've used the files you referenced but the unit isn't responding. The first set of files I used were referred to on this site and the unit did respond with a mix of green and red blink codes (what I think was a firmware update). I let it run to 10 minutes and since I've returned to the unit it won't acknowledge the DMS being put in.

I have since loaded the files you mentioned in your post but the unit won't load them, nor will the head unit see the Phatbox. I'm suspecting my Phatbox isn't happy with the firmware update and can't get to the point of updating itself with the new files.

I've tried to discuss this here:

Please respond there if you've any ideas.

what about doing the Phatnoise updates? My MusicKeg, Kenwood's version of the Phatbox (KHDC710-discontinued), wouldn't get recognized when I first installed it. When I would hit SOURCE, it'd scroll thru =>SIRIUS=>CD=>and skip the Keg, I would have to reset the radio to get it to read. Until it did the Phatnoise firmware updates.
