Hi, im new to all of this and i was wondering weather keeping the old HU while adding an amp, sub and new speakers will cause my system to not perform at its full potential? and if i were to ass new speakers would i probably need to run new stronger wires to each speaker and then buy an adapter to fir after market speaker?

up to its full potential no a stock HU is not as good as say a nice alpine or nakamichi cd player.... but can you tell the difference??? probably not unless you are a true audiophile and have a very nice sq set up. for the normal and even picky people a decent LOC and the stock HU is fine.

as far as running bigger wires to the speakers unless you are going to be running over 150watts (i am pulling this out of my ass btw but pretty much unless you are going to be running some serious power to the doors you are probably fine)

most speakers come with adapter plates to fit our holes we have 5x7 iirc in the doors and my 6.5" rounds came with plates to make them fit worked fine for me.

if you are going to put aftermarket speakers in your car please think about what else you should be doing while in your doors such as sound deadening and realize the the full potential of your speakers won't be realized without deadening and amplification more then a HU regardless if its a/m or not.

I assume tsunami is referring to dynamat or brown bread or fat mat or thunder mat or...any other material that is used to line/adhere/cover the frame of your car to absorb ambient road noise, reduce rattling and possibly keep the sound of your speakers inside the car where it belongs...but I'm a newbie too so I don't know. I'm just now looking at uping the speakers in my 3 and I'm running into all sorts of questions and this was one of them.
