03 MSP Kenwood Sub system setup help!!!

Hey guys as some of you might now i just bought an 03 msp, the car did not come with a stereo installed, so i bought a kenwood stereo and put it on, now i was wondering how the rear speaker set up works? i have wired everything but only the tweeters,mid bases on all 4 doors are working. but i dont hear anything from the subwoofer in the back. is there any wiring diagram i can look at? there was a few lose wires in the back which i think are from the stock amplifier? can someone show me their stock setup if its still installed? and is there 2 rear speakers that go with the subwoofer in the back? because i think mine are missing. i have an aftermarket amp and subwoofer as well so i can easily put those in but i want to make the stock one work! thanks in advanced. hope someone can help. you need power, ground, remote turn on, and the stereo signal hooked up to the amp, and then speaker wire from the amp to the sub.

if you're missing any of the above, you'll get nothing.

your choice is either rear desk speakers, OR the sub, as they occupy the same space. Thats why we got factory door speakers in the back instead.

ohhhh so there are no rear deck speakers stock right? ok that makes sense then haha. but look this is the problem, where is the stock amp supposed to go? there seems to be a place like on the left of the trunk that has holes and i found something like a mounting bracket! so im thinking the stock amp got removed? but anyways there are some lose wires which are ground,battery,and remote. the thing is that i checked for power on the yellow battery cable but i cant seem to be getting any. is there a fuse along the wire? i cant find it. and does the remote wire run from the stock harness? i dont see one. all i know is that the black ground cable is grounded properly thats about it. i hope i make sense? thanks

The stock amp and sub were in their own "box" that mounted to the top of the rear deck. It was all one big box that housed the sub and the amp was mounted to it.

in factory configuration, that blue wire is hooked up to the HU, and the yellow wire is fused, but I do not believe it has its own dedicated fuse. who knows whats been messed with on your setup though... very hard to troubleshoot when you're jumping into the middle of a mess.

yeah thats true, this is what ima do, let me know if it sounds good, im going to remove the battery cable as well as the remote, if i dont find a dedicated fuse on the battery cable then im going to replace it with an aftermarket one and hook that up to my amp, then run a remote wire from my headunit to the amp and use the same ground in the trunk. then i will wire up my own subwoofer.? does that sound like a plan? and is there any way i can remove the deck that is in the trunk and instead of having the sub i can just install 6x9 so there isnt a gap back there? thanks

all that sounds like a good idea, but I'd scrap the 6x9's. all they do is muddy up the sound anyway. if you insist on better then upgrade the front speakers instead.

the yellow power wires fuse is in the engine bay. right off of the batterey. its in a little black casing.

my power wire was bad so i replaced it with a 0-gauge wire and all is better

So I found my fuse connector for the oem power cable but that wire is too thin to power up my Rockford amp and p3 sub so I nstalled all wiring myself and it is knocking now!!!

My factory wiring was all hacked up too, the remote was hooked up to the fuse box! I also replaced it all and it works great.

The terminals are all marked, the yellow wire goes in the terminal marked Batt., the blue wire goes in the remote terminal, and the black wire goes in the middle ground terminal. Two screws are missing for the speaker wire terminals so swap the two in there into the blank spaces so the sub is properly bridged and hook the black wire on the amp rack from the sub into the neg. and the red into the pos. where it says speaker output. Then plug the red/white RCA plugs into their plugs on the amp. Good luck.

hey everybody i just bought my msp on tuesday. and i have a crappy radio and my sub doesnt work, any ideas? the light is on for the amp though.

Welcome. Typically its best to do a couple things instead of posting in someone else's thread.

1) use the search function. These cars are now 8 years old, most of the possiblities have been encountered and discussed here.

2) it looks like you found a thread on the topic (this one). I would suggest reading it, as it is relivant.

3) use common sense

If none of those get you your answer then post a topic here and discuss it.

But to answer your question:
if the amp is powering on, but you're not getting bass, either its not getting signal (maybe your "crappy HU" doesn't have a pre-out?), or its not outputing it to the sub. so I'd start with checking for signal, and verifying that the sub is hooked up AND that it works.

first of all disconnect the positive end of the battery so that the amp doesnt make a circuit as u install it, (ive installed int with the battery on) but just to keep it safe.

ok so the red and white av cables plug right into the amp on the red and white connections.
the blue wire goes to the "remote" connection on your amp
the yellow wire goes to the "battery" or power conenction on the amp
the black cable goes to the "ground" connection on your amp
now those 2 wires on the right that have the gold and red ends plug into the amps speaker terminals which are negative and positive, look at the cables and see if they are labled, then u can "bridge" the connections as they are labeled on the amp, by plugging the positive cable to the positive terminal and the negative to the negative etc..
once u have done that make sure the connections on the back of the head unit (stereo) match up. if you have the stock stereo then dont worry about it just make sure there is a fuse on the yellow wire that is connected to the positive end of the battery. once all that is plugged in then turn on your stereo and see if the amp and speaker are on then let me know what happens. hope i helped and wasnt too confusing haha
