02' Protege 5 headlight keeps burning out

Hello all, I am new to the forums and I am looking for some help on an issue I am having with my low beam headlights that keep burning out. I just replaced my headlight 2 days ago and is has already burnt out. About 3 months ago I replaced the Divers side low beam headlight and within 2 wks it burnt out. So I held off on replacing it until now. I had to have my car inspected so I replaced the drivers side low beam headlight. I know I purchased the right headlight and installed it correctly, but can't understand why it has already burnt out. Has anyone else had this problem that might have a solution?

Did you touch the glass of the bulb at all with your fingers when you were installing it? If you do that the bulbs will burn out really quickly.

There really should be a sticky about how P5s eat headlight bulbs. (dark) Usually they do last longer than that though, at least 3 mos.

Unfortunately it's normal. P5's were made to eat light bulbs..

Get HID's and stop worrying about it. Best investment so far...

One reason I believe is due to a Poor ground...I made a Ring (doughnut shaped and slipped it on before the Black adapter) out of .003 Shim stock with a looong tab (1") and attached a speaker terminal with @ 16 gauge wire and a ring terminal to a grounding point. It worked for me...

Unfortunately it's normal. P5's were made to eat light bulbs..

Get used to it. I've changed about 5 sets since i bought the car december of 08.

I don't know how you guys are burning them out so quickly. I've replaced one bulb (blah, blah, replace in pairs or else you will cause space and time to collapse on each other) in the four years I have owned the car.

i got HID and they are perfect. you can buy pretty ok one on ebay for under 50 bucks.

This guy's problem is different though - his are burning out every few days, not every few months. It definitely sounds like you're messing up something with the installation - be sure not to touch the bulb glass when installing....

Also, if you don't get that little clip in properly, your bulb will just jump around in there till the filament breaks.

Show us a pic of what the burnt ones look like.

+1 on the HIDs...got em a while ago and never looked back. I put HIDs in the fogs too.

my philips high output bulbs lasted 9 months or so, well, one burned out, anyway. I should just do HID's, I guess.

I was having similar problems till i bought one o those cheap bulbs th GE makes from a Pilot gas stop

i kinda agree on the hid solution but also i can say that the extremely cheap ge bulbs from walmart seem to last the longest for me. the shortest were the ridiculously expensive PIAA H7 hyper white 4000k bulbs 75$.

I did the PIAA thing too. What a waste of money. I think the higher the heat the bulb is made to make, the weaker the filament is. I just put the cheap ones in cuz they save the most money.

I bought the GE bulbs from Walmart three months ago and they're still going strong. They were $6-$8 a bulb maybe? Plenty bright for me.
