I lost one of the retaining springs and broke the other one, therefore I need to buy both headlight assemblies to pass inspection. Anyone have any stock headlights they would like to sell or can point me in the right direction?

Thanks!!

you just need the little clip that holds the bulb in? or something else?

Yes, I need both the driver and passenger retaining springs, however they don't sell them individually so I have to buy BOTH whole headlight assemblies. I am trying to figure out some other option because it is VERY expensive. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate the help :) Thanks!

Sorry, new here, but how do I find the FS section? I don't have permissions to post in marketplace if that is what you mean. I have been trying junk yards and used parts stores all week, no luck. There aren't many junkyards in the DC Metro area.

If anyone can find these springs/clips, I'll gladly pay a finder's fee!

How did u break/lost the clip?????

I am normally fairly handy with cars and can do things like replace fluids, air filters, headlights...or so I thought.

I changed one about a year ago and I guess I broke the clip while doing it. then in changing the other one a couple months ago, I dropped into the body of the car under the headlight and couldn't get it out. I meant to get a magnetic wand and try but it was around the busy holiday season and I forgot about it. I know, my stupidity got me into this situation.

The problem is that now it won't pass inspection without these clips and having two new headlight assemblies installed is very expensive. I've tried junk yards and used parts stores, and everyone says - go to the dealer.

I searched and there is an old post on here where someone had this exact problem and someone else sold them their stock headlights. So, I figured it is worth a shot!

What kind of inspection do you need to pass? If I was you, I'd try to get a paper clip or a thin wire and bend it into the correct shape before I spent a bunch of money to replace the whole assembly.....I can't imagine anyone (except for people like us who know proteges very well) would notice it. Or...you could use this as an excuse to get an HID kit!

VA Yearly Safety Inspection. I thought about that - but the inspection station already noticed it and rejected me based on that. So, now I have to fix it and take it back in for them to specifically look at that part. A little nervous about the paperclip idea, but will probably try it eventually!

That sucks, and I'm surprised they would notice something that small. There's got to be someone on this forum or protegeclub.com that got an HID kit and has their stock ones laying around collecting dust.

even if he got the HIDs, he'd still need the clip that holds the bulb in place.

the lights from CS are a single bulb light, whereas the Pro5 has 2 bulbs.

um....yea.....I think that's a link to THIS thread

I found a listing on www.car-part.com. For $175 they are shipping both (vs. $450 new from dealer). He said there is dirt in them so I can't use the whole assembly, but he said the springs are in fine condition. I was hoping to do better than that for these stupid springs, but I need it done quickly (only have until 4/10 with this great pink REJECTION sticker on my beautiful car!) I have my fingers crossed!!

Thanks for all your help!

Did u use any tools to change your headlights???? How can u break it with your bare hands? I'm asking this because if you need ANY tools to change your headlight (maybe other than using a key to pry the bulb off the black adaptor -- when the bulb is COMPLETELY out of and away from the car, in your hands), you're doing it WRONG!

$450 is way expensive.
I have had same problem before, and you can't buy that metal spring seperately.
just try to contact different dealer and see you can get price match or something.
