I'm not sure what is best for California, but in N. Dakota in the winter if we were going out in the badlands away from the main roads we always packed emergency gear, water, food, sleeping bags etc. I don't know where you are going in the mountains but if you are getting off the main track you...

What don't you like about your 5, and what fixes have you used?

I am very happy with my 09 5. If I had a complaint I would have to agree that the accelerator is too close to the brake pedal and my size tens occasionally catch on the pedals.

    Clunker

First trip We drove from here in N.Va to about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh for the wedding of a cousins daughter, a trip of about 260 miles one way. I was amazed at how comfortable a trip it was. The 5 tracked like it was on rails. It had plenty of power for merging back onto the highway from...

    Clunker

Reply Thank you for your kind reply Sgt. My wife and I have a long history of driving vans starting with a new 1973 VW bus which we drove to Mazatlan Mexico from Chicago on our honeymoon. I loved the VW and honestly if they still offered them I would have bought one. We then bought a new Dodge...

    Clunker

I just bought a Mazda5 Touring, two weeks ago. I traded in a well used 1993 Ford conversion van. (Transmission about to go out) under the clunker program. They gave me $4500 for it. I am very happy with the Mazda. It is just the right size for my wife and me. Still getting used to it. My...
