    Considering a Protege5

No timing belt was fine and was just due to be replaced (96,000 kms). Water pump had to be replaced at the same time so that was an extra burden. The alternator belt and serpatine (sp?) were worn and needed to be replaced too. Top it off with an oil change and tire rotation = just over 800...

    Considering a Protege5

Oh I agree. I know that there is risk in buying used. Really though, how much of what I stated would have been due to poor maintenance from a previous owner? Small belts are no big deal and I understand the maintenance aspect re: timing belt changes etc.., but now with the constant malfunctions...

    Considering a Protege5

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I am thinking of ditching mine. I bought an '03 used in January '08. Mileage was 74 kms. Since then I've had to replace a lock actuator, ABS sensors crapped out, a new timing belt with water pump and other belts, a new battery, new headlights, a warped...

    Door Lock Actuator, Right?

I'm not sure if you can buy just the gear or not. That would make things pretty easy wouldn't it. The only reason I knew to open it up was because somebody on this forum had done it before and I just wanted to see how cheap it was inside. There is also a post on this forum where somebody has...

    Door Lock Actuator, Right?

Yes this controls the power lock. It's the gear that is inside the actuator. The term worm gear, I believe, is generic in nature and is consistent with the configuration of the gear itself. Here is the gear sitting in the actuator. I only posted a pic of the gear in the previous post without...

    Door Lock Actuator, Right?

UPDATE: Got the part from Online Mazda Parts. Only took 8 days to get to Canada. Took the car to a mechanic around the corner. Turns out I went to high school with him so he only charged me $20 to throw in the actuator. Now that I've seen it done it looks pretty straight forward and if another...

    Door Lock Actuator, Right?

My rear passenger door lock actuator went last Saturday. I ordered the part from online mazda parts (as recommended by people on this site) and they are extremely fast and friendly. the part itself was only $39.04 plus $20 shipping to canada. I am not a fan of tearing down door panels so I will...

    How to on aiming headlights?

I am sure that there is, but I can't answer specifically. It wasn't something I needed to do and I don't think I would work on that too much myself. Yes you can. The turtorial I saw used the 10mm bit and I found it very comfortable to use, but a screwdriver will work also. Cheers.

    How to on aiming headlights?

I had to go through lowering my lights a few weeks ago and this is what I found. It's actually a 10mm brass coloured bolt that is behind the lights. If you have a ratchet set use a 10mm bit and look at the bottm of the light assembly. Turn clockwise for lower and counter-clockwise to highten...

    New owner - Couple Questions

What an awesome thread. I'm not trying to highjack this one, but I didn't see any sense in starting a new one, so if I can interject for a moment and offer some of my own findings so far. I recently bought a 2003 Mazda Protege 5 (5 weeks ago). I will start off by saying I know very little about...
