I have a late 02 with that tranny from the factory. IMHO it would only be worth it to be able to leave it in 3rd, instead of 1/2/autoD. It DOES NOT change gears fast at all. It's just handy to keep it from hunting a bit a 45mph hilly roads.

My 02 at 96,000 is also just starting that. I thought it was slippage on snow/ice, but roads have been clear this week. Mine is also fine except for dead stop start. I am assuming the fluid pressure/viscosity/shear is no longer right, and plan on a fluid drain/replacement with a 'hi mileage'...

My sway bar end links on my 02 went in that order, back first, front last. FWIW- my front struts went after the end links (big clue was how small bumps made the front wash out on turns) but the rears are still fine, both my rear abs sensors went, but fronts are fine

So a half turn was all the way out to stop, then it can go 'many turns' back to tight? Sounds more like the adj to tighten was not happening, esp if they were never re-set after the last brake job. Tried a c-clamp to compress the system yet?

My 02 now has Toyo Proxes 4, very happy. Kumho ASX was a bad weather upgrade over oem Dunlop, and much cheaper. Toyos are 10% more than Kumho from my local shop, worth it for a bit quieter, smoother, grippier on pavement, same on snow.

Bummer about your car being beat. But the sway bar stuff is very normal for these, and my 02/78k car has the front struts going soft also. But I can feel those coming and plan... and the rears are fine.

Thanks guys! I filled the reservoir up from about 3/4 to Low, right to the Full line shortly after the first post. The next day it was up to the bottom of the word Full, and it has stayed between there and the line 1/4" down. Avg for the blorches of pressure back/forth. No new drips seen yet...
