(smash) If you're worried just take a plastic grocery bag and wrap it around your air filter. That's what I do if it's wet outside. Also helps to keep the filter clean.

If its broken it will look broken and most likely your engine will be sitting on the ground. You can take it out, go to the hospital, have them X-Ray it and look for hairline cracks if you're worried.
