Rear brakes... what could be wrong?

My rear brakes don't seem to be working. The rotors are not shiny and are covered in thin rust from the rain. When I brake hard I can hear them squeezing a little but when I touch them they are barely warm (the fronts are burning hot). I've changed the pads and rotors, and then I changed the...

    Two bad rear calipers?

Hey guys, I have an '02 Protege ES. The passenger rear caliper has the issue with the allen key to retract the piston not working, whereas the drivers rear has no such issue. But, in both cases, there are multiple, uneven grooves that go along the surface of the rotor (sign of a bad piston?), in...

    Who likes driving slow?

When I watch CVT's cruise (not accelerate), they go into low rpms. At 30 or 40 mph on a flat road, it was easily staying below 1500. I figure CVT is pretty gas efficient, so if it wasn't smart to stay that low the car would be revving higher.

BAHH i drove at 3000 ish rpms for past two tanks. Mileage dropped to 30.

    Who likes driving slow?

So if you're going 30 MPH in 5th (which is a mere tap of the gas), you're using less gas than in third? I think if you're cruising at that same speed you're using less gas in 5th, and that the gas saving in say, 3rd, comes from when you go up hills or have to accelerate. On my next tank I'll...

StealthWyvern, did you do a tune up on your P5 at all? I expect your MSP mileage is normal but on your P5... weird.

    Who likes driving slow?

Especially since gas prices have shot up, I've really had fun playing the MPG game; I always have my phone out ready to calculate my next tank, haha. Before, I used to drive semi-gas savingly, shifting at 2500 normally but with a decent amount of gas pedal. Now I'm shifting at 2100-2200 ish with...

    Protege Gas Mileage Thread

I average about 32 MPG (I would say that's 40% highway usually), but my last tank was 34.92 MPG on 60% highway. '02 Protege ES Edit: its a stick btw. This is a result of shifting at low RPM's and driving 5-10 MPH under speed limit on parkway/turnpike haha. are there any mods you can do to...

    MPT (Miles Per Tank)

in town i shift at 2100-2200 and on highway 2500, and i hold 5-10 mph under speed limit when cruising on free ways

    Horrible Gas Mileage!!! Wtf!!!??

I hope you guys are calculating using the odometer to measure miles / gallons gas for fill up, as opposed to assuming using almost a full tank and dividing by the tank size. I've been babying mine (shift at 2500) and I'm getting about 30 on average.

Rear Brakes Changed - E-Brake Gone?

I am getting some feeling in the e-brake now. Before I fixed the brakes, I would have to pull it all the way up to get it not rolling on a hill. I don't think it'll get any better than that, so I'm considering turning the nut. Sound reasonable?
