    GHL downpipe-back prototype...

Just wanted to give my weekend update. It is quiet on the freeway. It opens up under load. However, the volume difference from stock is negligent on the highway and at idle. The tone is lower. This is exactly what I was looking for and the guys at GHL delivered! I should also mention that...

    GHL downpipe-back prototype...

GHL is just down the street from me, so I decided to stop by and visit them last week. I mentioned to them that I was looking for an exhaust and test pipe combo because another manufacturer dropped the ball. They gave me and a friend a tour of the shop. It was nice to actually see products...

    Avic D-3

I just bought an Avic_D3. I did a test fit with the Metra kit and the unit will fit just fine. It is actually smaller than the factory headunit. Also, for an inexpensive price on the D3-X package (includes bluetooth and Ipod cable) check out newegg.com. Yeah, that's right, newegg. -Mark

    MBC and our MS3 ECU...

Simply put, the "defender" is a pressure regulator. It "caps" the pressure so it doesn't exceed a set level. So, the car's ECU is happy because it doesn't see boost pressures that are too high. jhowey, to actually answer your question, If we boost above the ECU's limit, yes, we need to add...

    Problems with K&N replacement filters?

Silicon and silicone are two completely different things. So, siliCONE on a MAFS will not lead to SiliCON in the intake. Silicon = sand = computer chips Silicone = caulking = breast implants One of the issues with oiled air filters like the K&N is that overoiling the filter can lead to bad...

difference between the gt and sport h/u

On a sport, the speaker connections are made behind the headunit. The headunit amplifies the signal to drive the speakers. The "Bose" headunit outputs a lower voltage that gets sent to the Bose amplifier. This amp is mounted under the driver's seat. The speaker connections are made under the...

    Anyone with Subs...

Only rattle I heard outside my car was the rear window wiper. I used sound deadening in my entire cargo area and then lined it with closed cell foam. Did the same on the hatch door. Of course I'm not a "bass head" so I'm not driving my equipment to its full potential.

advice on a decent sub setup...

I would say sound deadening in the doors. A single 10 or 12 on 300 watts RMS will be more than adequate. I would see how much the equipment costs on the web at authorized dealers and then see how much they are charging you for installation and installation materials. $420 seems a little low...

Sub woofer location for the MS3 Bose system?

Sound deadening, sound deadening, sound deadening. Check out raamaudio.com Inexpensive and effective sound deadening. Before I ripped the Bose stuff out, I sound deadened my car. So, was able to get a before and after comparison. It tightened up the midbass and lessened the midrange...

Sub woofer location for the MS3 Bose system?

Please see my post above. I wouldn't buy new door speakers and try to run them off of the Bose amplifier. However, the headunit signals can be sent to aftermarket amplifiers without the use of a line output converter. If you want new speakers, I would feed the headunit line level outputs...

Sub woofer location for the MS3 Bose system?

    1) Speaker impedance is irrelevant. 2) Climate control is not tied into the factory headunit. 3) Aftermarket gear can be easily integrated and/or run off of the "Bose' headunit. I realize a huge improvement in sound quality by sound deadening the inside of the car. Sound deadening the doors...

Having issues finding Bose headunit pre-outs...

Thanks for shouting. I realize that it isn't a Bose receiver, however, the word Bose was being used as a distinction between the standard audio in the sport trim level and the Bose audio system in the GT. The wiring is different. The sport doesn't have preouts. The word "Bose" is being used...

Having issues finding Bose headunit pre-outs...

Well, I finally got my amps temporarily installed. It sounds very nice. I am still having the minor hissing problem. I plan to make my own patch cables using some microphone cable with a drain wire. I'm hoping the drain wire, connected at the source, will remove some of the noise. I wish I...

Having issues finding Bose headunit pre-outs...

A lot of times, rattling can be caused by loose items in the door, such as wiring that doesn't have padding around it, etc. I second the raammat/ensolite installation. It made a HUGE difference on this car. I was skeptical at first, but I could hear the difference when I had the right side...

    Bike Rack on a MS3?

I was bummed when I found out my Saris load bars from my other car wouldn't fit on my Speed3. Just so happens the clips are the same, but the loadbar is about 2" too short. :(

HOW TO: Change your own oil

You are supposed to run the engine before sucking the oil out. The engine is supposed to be warm when you use the vacuum extraction method. If this is the case, any particulates should be suspended in the oil when it is sucked out. -Mark

HOW TO: Change your own oil

I have a Pela oil extractor. It is the 6L model that looks like a little sphere. Honestly, I think it was the best tool investment I made. I've used it on my Passat 1.8t, my old Golf TDI with a cartridge filter, and numerous friends cars. It is really nice if you are doing multiple cars at...

    MBC and our MS3 ECU...

This is only true if the injectors, the maximum injector duty cycle, and the fuel pressure can support it. In other words, the fuel maps in the ECU have to be able to support the added air. It is completely vehicle dependent. Some vehicles are more "tunable" than others. My previous car had...
