Thanks for the thread guys. I found this thread when looking into the P0442 I ordered the part months ago and am finally replacing. My old one allowed a very small amount of air. and thanks @walks for this great pics.
Its not on the steering wheel. Its on the dash to the left of the steering wheel on our '13. A "P" with some radio waves printed on a rectangular button.
I agree RABID. I have some great guys at work that had some time and finished sandblasting my ring and painted it with some industrial strength enamel. That and the stainless bolts should hold the rust at bay for the few more years this car will last.
back on the road and not posing a bomb threat anymore
I got a car again. I like riding my motorcyle but its nice to have an alternative. It was the high pressure housing that was causing this issue. See the picture below. Several cracks and the plastic was eaten away.
Here is the info on...
if you are talking about part #2 shown in mtnbkr's picture it sounds real high. Did that include labor? Online OEM Mazda part I found was $38. I just ordered a beck-arnley(sp?) unit from RocAuto for $28 + shipping.
I found my unit was eaten away and had cracks in the top. I am refinishing the...
well its still leaking. Hopefully just the porous plastic piece mentioned above. If not it's the seam in the opening. Time to start ordering parts. (the fun never ends.)(freak)
well it was ugly. Ended up using a cold chisel on the screw heads. They were so rusted out even the impact driver and days of PB Blaster would not get them free.
After I pulled out the cover and pump I siphoned out much of the gas and made a duct tape cover to stop debris from going in and gas...
another rusted out part on my car
Well the gas leaking on my newly sealed driveway is driving me to fix this new rust issue on my P5. Not to mention co-workers and family complaining about the smell.
When I took the cover off the level of rust especially on the screw heads is astonishing...
Besides rust on the (rear) quaterpanel area mentioned already my P5 has had three front wheel bearings go. Two driver side. BTW if have 75k on the ODO.
oh and grease the rear wiper arm where it goes through the window and the ball joints on the rear hutch struts. They are not deal breakers but...
Jay same thing is happening to me. Vincent replaced both front wheel bearings under warranty about 20k ago. Now the drivers side is going. I'm starting to wonder if this Japanese car is really reliable after issues and rusting out like a salted tin can.
btw, can I borrow or rent your press??
having a day above freezing today, washed the car off. Shouldn't have, just see the rust multiplying like a day-care flu bug. Even the rear calipers are breaking through the G2 paint I put on last spring. (sad face)
Fixed for you
lols
reminds me of this old thread on the gasbuddy site; The OP says a Pro5 is the fastest car he's ever driven (what were his other cars?)and a Mazda salesman say they are extremely fast. LOLZ

I'm STI gasguzzler from when I had the Subi.
Lots of truth in your post Pat, I feel your pain being in the rust/salt belt too. Do you happen to know if those oil spray shops will spay a car with US plates? For whatever reason we cant' get it done here.

I use Dunlop GRASPIC DS-2 195/50R-16 on the stock rims. Great tires for the (low) price. And I live in lake effect snow country so they get regular workouts.
