I have a 2003 protege es. I had a very small leak start about 3 months ago. I couldn't seem to trace the leak?? I recently put an AM Muffler tip on (cut and weld job). I live in MN and it is starting to get colder and now the leak seems to be a little worse. Also, it seems to be leaking...

Seriously, the stock head unit on the 2003 protege is impossible. Any advice would be great. Such as what screws need to be removed, how many screws, diagrams and pictures would be grrreeeaat!!! Thanks : )

HELP!! The head unit for the 2003 protege is impossible. It seems that the stock unit is mounted impossibly. Any suggestions other than a hammer?

Same here. I brought my 2003 protege es in today w/ basic mods and the dealer gave me no problems at all. The fix made a difference too. No more rattle. I think my manifold was loose or the bolts were banging around inside there because since the dealer fixed it there has been no rattle.

I am sure it was. One of those hush, hush things. I also had a couple people tell me about the same thing.

I went ahead and brought it in this morning. They told me that it really has only happened to like 1 or 2 2003 Proteges?? Well anyways problem solved. Good luck to the rest of you.

What exactlly is the recall all about. I talked to a Mazda mechanic and they told me something about a butterfly nut on the inside of the intake manifold coming lose?? 1) First, does anyone know anything about this? 2) Second, is it a difficult fix for myself or should I bring it in to Mazda...

I pretty much thought so. I mean it's just brake cleaner for brakes, so why would it be so dangerous? Obviously, if it flammable you don't want the engine to be to hot but this guy made it sound like it was rocket science!

I recently changed my oil and replaced the oil pan plug. Ofcourse napa sold me the wrong plug first off and I had a slow drip drop leak. Then I went to get the right plug (w/ the washer this time) and drained my recently changed new/fresh oil, put the new plug on and went to put in the new oil...

The recall.....was it the one for the intake manifold? I think it is safe to say that it is directly related to the intake manifold fix. Also, the spark plug replacement will definently help. I replaced mine recently and it's all good now! Good luck!
