    Should I chip my CX-9 2.5T?

Here's my CX9, it's cool eh? I think it's a MY 2018, it has the extra sound deadening etc. It is AWD and was the top spec at the time. It has: 21 inch wheels All chrome blacked out Tinted front windows A bit more cushion in the drivers knee pad It's about to get fitted this week: Corksport SRI...

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

With constant wet weather this is the best shot I could get of my little car lately. I haven't done much to it aside from get an ECU update from Mazda to try and fix my CEL issue. (from installing a SRI) I had to change the airbox back to stock to get them to do it so haven't got around to...

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

Lowering a KF Mazda CX5 is a bit of a tricky process. Personally I believe the car sits just a little too high from the factory, and a small drop in ride height was an attractive proposition for an improvement in looks and handling. The only springs you can really buy off the shelf are Corksport...

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

I was mainly starting this thread just to help anyone trying to modify their KF CX5, because it has been quite tricky and expensive, with many lessons learnt. One thing was upgrading the factory stereo in the KF Mazda CX5 (non Bose) is quite tricky. I started out with an underseat sub, 2 x 50w...

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

Yep bigger wheels definitely come with compromises. For some it's a trade off worth having for the improvement in looks.

I feel that Mazda uses smaller wheels to hide its lack of sound deadening too! As soon as you switch to bigger rims you get so much extra road noise.

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

Fair enough, Mazda's are amazing straight from the box - the best handling 'semi cheap' SUV's on the market by far. I loved the stock handling, but my daily commute is over a road that is regularly shut for hillclimbs - it is super twisty - with the new suspension the car is definitely more fun...

(2017 CX5) Does changing only speakers improve sound quality much?

I think it was 4. The components I added included tweeters which are now where the factory tweeters are on the Bose or 6 speaker cars. I added a sub (underseat) to the factory system and I didn't like it - the factory head unit didn't really produce the right signals to get a good sound out of...

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

I tried a few things on the intake side before settling on this. A K&N panel filter made a bit more noise but the intake snorkel has about 3 mufflers in it. I actually got a turbo snorkel and tried to fit it but it didn't work. (the turbo snorkel has no mufflers) I might still use the turbo...

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

The little CX5 as it sits today. The exhaust is a Racing Beat item and is about as loud as a stock 2022 MX5 I reckon. It does not drone at all on the motorway - the car is as quiet as stock. It has a deep sound at super low revs, then sounds normal, then makes a nice noise at the top end. Looks...

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

Here's my answer to all those who think I've ruined my car lol. For family cruising we use the CX9 which is much softer and quieter. I have only 'ruined' that with bigger wheels, blacked out chrome, a K&N and tints. ;-)

Learnings from messing with my 2018 KF CX5

It was a 'near base model' without factory heated seats. Sorry I don't know the brand. They're not as good as the factory ones and only have two settings - high and low. Plus the button is on the side of the seat so they're easy to accidentally leave on. Better than nothing but definitely...
