    Cracked Cylinder Head (2018 CX-9)

Where do live that the nearest Mazda dealer is 2.5 hours? There's about 30 Mazda dealers within 2.5 hours from me (MA). The drive all depends on whether your engine temp is being affected yet. Fortunately you shouldn't have anything to stress over as Mazda should cover. Just have a game plan...

Updated Service Bulletin Coolant Leaks Nov 2024 read this!

Interestingly enough, mine went at around 75,000 and it seems to be the average from what I've seen on this forum. What adds to the difficulty of your situation is that this repair now exceeds the value of your CX-9 by a decent amount. My long block replacement (not whole engine) was billed at...

Sorry to hear. I was curious if they would. After I got mine replaced, my dealer said the new block was covered for 1 year for defects. Wasn't sure if this new campaign would change that. Looks like you got an early replacement in which Mazda hadn't fully fixed the issue and just gave you the...

Updated Service Bulletin Coolant Leaks Nov 2024 read this!

Probably not going to find an answer here, at least for a while. Since Mazda just recently announced this extended warranty, there may be no examples yet of Mazda covering a 2nd replacement. I don't recall seeing anyone else on this forum encountering a 2nd failure and there's many threads over...

2.5T Cracked Cylinder Head/Leaking Coolant Report to the NHTSA

Got the extended warranty in the mail today. Even though I've had my long block replaced already under 3rd party extended warranty. Something is wrong in your case, keep fighting.

2.5T Cracked Cylinder Head/Leaking Coolant Report to the NHTSA

Interesting course of action after a few years of having many customers struggle with engine replacements. Those that didn't have the means to do the repair, maybe forced to dump the car. Nevertheless, this is great news going forward. Wonder what extended warranty companies will have to say...

CX-9 2.5T Engine Coolant Leaking TSB

This issue doesn't create a sudden dangerous situation. When it happens, the engine will start to show overheating warnings and a slow loss of power if you don't just pull over. Recalls are typically safety related. Other issues are either handled under warranty or a case by case basis. It would...

CX-9 2.5T Engine Coolant Leaking TSB

I agree that this is a faulty design and shouldn't happen. Manufacturer warranties exist solely to cover defects. If it is expected that engines should run without major repair until 150,000 miles for example, than that would have to be fought for, perhaps regulated. Just as EV batteries are...

Cracked cylinder head while stationed overseas (2017 CX-9)

Terrible situation. This is a tough one because of how unique your situation is. Very few people have shipped US Mazda's to Germany and then to run into a huge repair really sucks. One thing stood out as odd. The engine doesn't have to be disassembled to diagnose the cracked head. You...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

It'll likely go the distance with the new block. Mazda dealers are putting in the modified designs post 2021. I would bet these go over 200K without much issue.

    Cracked Cylinder Head (2018 CX-9)

$11K is ludicrous. Why have most dealer quotes been under $8K and you get told $11k? To me, that difference is getting it fixed vs dumping the car. My 2018 CX-9 is valued at $19K, there's no way I'd do an $11K engine replacement.

2.5T Cracked Cylinder Head/Leaking Coolant Report to the NHTSA

They set up a class action lawsuit and don't even include all the vehicles effected. I have an '18 Mazda6 T along with the wife's CX-9.

CX-9 2.5T Engine Coolant Leaking TSB

So she somehow thinks Mazda should have a full warranty at 126,000 miles. Unreal. Literally over twice the promised mileage (industry standard). Do people think a warranty is supposed to be unlimited? Yes, this sucks, but tons of cars actually don't make it that far without major repairs.

I noticed the banned tag but they didn't seem to do anything that would get a ban.

CX-9 2.5T Engine Coolant Leaking TSB

How is it that you still owe $14K on a CX-9 with 126K that you've been driving since 44K? Did you do a ton of miles within just 3 or so years? Not meant to be a criticism, it just might help to understand the situation. Other options exist other than selling. You say your situation would have...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

So an engine with 60K on it is $5K. But a new engine from Mazda6 installed at the dealer is $8K? Not a chance in hell I'd ever do the used option. Installed, that used engine is probably $6,500-$7,000? That's insane.

CX-9 2.5T Engine Coolant Leaking TSB

How many miles when you bought it? A seller isn't going to tell you about a possible problem that may or may not happen. When they sold it to you it hadn't failed yet. While this is indeed a problem with the 2.5T, it isn't guaranteed to fail. Unfortunately there's never going to be a...

Only if you owe more than it's worth which seems unlikely. Otherwise you probably end up losing more money than paying for the engine replacement.

2.5T Cracked Cylinder Head/Leaking Coolant Report to the NHTSA

These warranty companies always have a million ways of getting out of a claim even though they say it covers "everything" (except normal wear and tear/maintenance) when they sell it to you. So infuriating.

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

I've seen listings for used 2nd gen CX-9's up to 200,000 miles. Looked through the Carfax histories and no engine replacements (or head replacements). So unless dealers are purposely covering this up and don't record the repairs (don't know how they could not record a $7,000 repair), then it's...
