New Axel Boots at Early Mileage?

For Mazda it’s kind of early to me. But in your situation with many coarse roads, the rubber boot could get damaged by the flying rock or debris in Colombia. Look at the brighter side, at least the shop is willing to replace only the rubber boot (hopefully it’s from OEM) and keep the...

    Loud engine tick

In the TSB Mazda had admitted the design of the original switchable HLA is faulty which caused air bubbles in the oil passage. They had redesigned the switchable HLA to increase the oil supply to eliminate the problem. This has nothing to do with prior maintenance.

    2018 CX-5 GT Ticking sound?

I agree. With the estimate of 3.5 dealer labor hours, I’d believe it can be a project for many capable DIYers.

    2018 CX-5 GT Ticking sound?

The TSB attached in post #77 has a parts list and the labor hours the Mazda dealer can charge to MNAO. The labor hour is 3.5 hours for CX-5 which is at least $200 x 3.5 = $700. The revised switchable HLA part # PYFA-12-1A0A has the MSRP $90.52. You may need up to 8 pieces = $724.16. With...

    Loud engine tick

Then it won’t be able to increase the oil supply to original switchable HLA oil passage to reduce air bubbles.

    Loud engine tick

For OP, switching to 5W-30 oil is a cheap way to try. But based on Mazda’s TSB they increased oil supply in modified switchable HLA’s oil passage to reduce air bubbles. Thicker 5W-30 oil may actually achieve opposite result.

    Loud engine tick

No, it isn’t location dependent but the faulty design of the switchable HLAs which IMO is related to the PCM update to fix the early rocker arm falling problem on cylinder deactivation. If you read the entire thread posted above, and the early Service Alerts and TSBs, you’ll see the early fix...

How to safely remove blue screen in brake master cylinder?

And be careful as the brake fluid is corrosive to the paint!

    Loud engine tick

The valve ticking noise is due to the original switchable hydraulic lash adjusters used on cylinder #1 and #4 are failing IMO. It’s a common problem on the 2.5L NA with cylinder deactivation and Mazda has revised those switchable HLA’s used for CD to fix the issue. See the TSB: 2018 CX-5 GT...

P0171 Code Came Back After Clearing

Are you saying the first CEL code after the loose gas cap is different from the current P0171? IMO the current CEL has nothing to do with the loose gas cap: Something else happened and you should let your Mazda dealer sort it out. And please keep us posted.

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Unfortunately it’ll get loose again. Loctite? See my previous post.

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

The first time when I noticed that T20 screw for rear view mirror was loose, my 2016 CX-5 is still under B-to-B warranty. I had the Mazda dealer to do the job. The Service Advisor showed me a Service Alert that Mazda advised dealers don’t tighten that T20 screw too much which could break the...

    Thoughts on 0-20W Oil?

No, this definitely isn’t the case. You can find any viscosities of oil, including Toyota’s 0W-16 oil, and many different brands of oil you may not have seen here in other countries.

Front and Rear Differential fluid exchange - how much fluid?

You need more than 1 quart (so get 2 bottles) of Mazda Long Life Hypoid Gear Oil SG1 to replace both front transfer case and rear differential. The manual says the front needs 0.48 quart and the rear needs 0.48 / 0.37 quart, but in reality the rear needs about ⅔ quarts! 2013~2016: CX-5 Rear...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

This reminds me that I saw a pile of Mazda’s broken rotary engines sitting in the back yard of a local Mazda dealership in 1990’s.

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

In this case you should try to demand a new engine as coolant in the oil definitely can harm the bearings、piston rings、 and many engine internal parts. Dealer’s repair work now really can’t be trusted. There’re too many screw-ups nowadays unfortunately!

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

Or at least offers something like a Customer Service Program (CSP11) issued for the 2.5T to extend the limited powertrain warranty to 10 years/120K miles for any owners experiencing the coolant leak.
