I asked for a version number of the update/software in the german forum but they couldn't tell. They took the car to the dealership, the software was updated and the BSM worked just fine afterwards. I don't think that the BSM is different in other countries so people could just ask for that...

Thanks for your detailed answers. I downloaded the german owners manual now and this feature isn't mentioned there at all (only the different ways to lock and unlock the car with the remote keyless entry). I'll write an email to Mazda Germany now and ask them if this feature is available here...
