If you have the ability to weld, that's definitely your better option, less paint work and you don't have to worry about matching paint since it's not on the outside of the door. Black paint would even suffice.
I made a thread on the speeduino, you can get units that are 95% or more pre-assembled Guide: - Run your Mazdaspeed Protege on a Speeduino
I unfortunately only have 1 Kenwood rear deck unit that I am still using, I have a spare tire cover but it's definitely not in great condition, very warped...
Still running strong on the Speeduino, I've upgraded the injectors to WRX 440's and switched to sequential injection mode (using a 99-02 626 camshaft gear). I'm in the middle of re-tuning my VE table for the new injectors, then the boost is going to get turned up to 9-10 PSI.
Nice Find!
A bit has changed in the past fuel years. I have a nearly complete Blazing Yellow parts car, if you need and odds and ends let me know.
Word of advice, send that SSAFC back and go standalone, I'm successfully running a Speeduino (self tuned and cheaper than you probably paid for...
You can have a new flex pipe welded in, you will have to have the manifold removed though, I did this on my 2014 Mazda 6 a few years back. I added a V-band flange before the flex pipe so that it can easily be removed and replaced in the future. This also makes it way easier to reinstall the...
I'm betting the fuel pump is seized, especially if the car has been sitting for some time. Pull the fuel line and and stick it in a bucket and crank the engine for a second or two to confirm.
Most likely the speaker cone separated from the outer perimeter. I was able to take mine out and glue them back together with some RTV silicone and clamps to hold it together until it dried. This has worked great for almost 2 years so far for me.
I know for certain it will throw a CEL for lean or rich idle. I haven't checked what codes mine is kicking as I'm not subjected to emissions testing. If emissions is an issue, you could wire the speeduino up like I did where I can flip plugs and switch control back to the stock ECU, for a period...
I've had great success with the Speeduino Piggybacked just controlling Fuel and Spark on a MT. The Stock ECU happily goes along thinking it's still running the show. (It even still bumps the IDLE up for AC like stock) I would imagine with an Auto it would continue shifting the Transmission in...
I'm still dialing in the tune a little bit at a time, but the Speeduino hasn't skipped a beat. I'm currently running low boost at 6PSI holding a steady 11.8-12AFR in boost and it feels solid. I'm getting ready to bump the boost up to 9psi soon, but have been monitoring for detonation just to be...
I'm starting to part out one of my Mazdaspeed Protege's due to frame Rot. Right now I have up for sale:
(Sold) Fog Light Deletes: $120.00 shipped, good condition no broken clips.
(SOLD) SSAFC: $100 shipped, non-data logging version Superstock Map Loaded. I have the software on my google drive...
Hi Antoine,
Just trying to help out a forum member, I used to buy and sell a lot on here many years ago. Unfortunately, Facebook has taken over and ruined the scene in my opinion.
I'm up and running on Speeduino, which is very similar to a Megasquirt 2 in features but doesn't require you to fully assemble the unit from scratch. Guide - Run your Mazdaspeed Protege on a Speeduino
