Stopped in a engine shop that does machining and the owner listened as I explained the problem. He measured the new spacer and old spacer hub-centric ring I provided and cautioned against modifying the new spacer until I had thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned the rear hubs.
They were kinda crusty...

Mazda has been considered a 'niche' brand by many other vehicle owners. I've owned Mazda Proteges since 1992 and love them for their body design, handling (Zoom-Zoom), and reliability.
I always love seeing Proteges and MP5s still on the road and chat up the owners when the chance arises.
Why not indeed? I love the story of the NFL running back, 1st played for Redskins, who had his hand-me-down 1990-ish Mazda6 restored to factory condition. It was NOT cheap but he kept it to remind himself of how/where he started his journey.
I just need spare time & money to restore my 92...
Sweet find MazdaVelo! It's nice that you know & appreciate the value of an older 'unmolested' base Protege that will last and continue to run soundly with minor maintenance.
I didn't 'do' anything to her today but I'm teleworking in the garage [only place I'm allowed to smoke] and am looking at her and considering 12mm spacers vs. the 10mm already on.
Checked fluid levels and tire pressure before I got to drive mine today after being in a r/shoulder sling for seven weeks after surgery. She still makes me smile whenever I take her out for a bit of driving.
Got this issue fixed using a bracket I got from a dude I found on the MX-3.com site who's made them in the past.

I did not have to drop the exhaust but I did disconnect the extension bar assembly so I could R/R the plate the plate to drill...
