To put it in simple terms, It changes the runner length. Longer runner normally give better low end torque but restrict the top end power. Having the flaps is like having two manifolds in one.

From experience spinning through second gear isn't as fun as it sounds. Spinning=slow. Light car=fast, why not consider stripping the interior and getting rid of any crap that might be in the back.

I've had experience with Mach-v or P-tuning. They both specialize on performance and force induction. Both places staff is very friendly and knowledgable. I had my car tuned at Mach-V. I used to aways go to P-tuning for my alignments (until i found a shop that lets me use their rack after hours) .

my best advise would be to do what i did and go to a machine shop and get a 3mm modified. i could even go to my machine shop and ask them to do another set but its gonna be a pretty penny. Pm me if youre interested before i end up selling my old brakes
