What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Since it affects cylinder compression I’d assume that “valve” is the exhaust valve for the cylinder.

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Do you have any warranty to cover this repair? If you don’t, this can be expensive. You could argue with the MNAO to cover some repair cost as your 2019 CX-5 has only 26K miles. It’s a design flaw by Mazda hence they modified the exhaust manifold to prevent this problem happening. Keep...

    What's The Deal with Dipsticks?

A simple solution to your scenario: wait the oil to drain back to the oil pan fully with enough time, preferably overnight, then you’ll get a consistent oil level reading on the dipstick. “If you’ve never owned an engine that didn’t nail the full mark after adding the nominal oil fill volume”...

    What's The Deal with Dipsticks?

Your statement makes me wonder why we have such different experience on oil change. I had a couple of Chevy’s back then, and I poured in the said oil amount, and the oil level would always be at the Top / Full mark of the dipstick. As I mentioned earlier, even today, I put in the said oil...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

Based on reports from those who had the cracked cylinder head with oil leaks, no, no CEL or Low Oil Pressure warning light from dash. Most of them have oil burning smell, as the leaked oil will drip to the hot exhaust manifold.

    What's The Deal with Dipsticks?

Your experience definitely is different from mine. For all vehicles I’ve touched, VW、BMW、Honda、Nissan、Toyota、GM、Ford、AMC、you name it, changing the oil for the last 50 years, if I use specified oil quantity in the manual, it all ends up at the Full mark of the dipstick! My Mazda CX-5 is the...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

Sorry, my mistake. And the oil leaked from cracked head usually is only on engine underneath cover, not on front bumper. Your brother’s case is a weird one and needs further investigation. Keep us posted.

    What's The Deal with Dipsticks?

Yeh the oil level dipstick design on CX-5 isn’t the best. But since I always measure the oil level the first thing in the morning before the engine starts like the old days, the oil residue on the dipstick is a lot easier to see, and I don’t even need to wipe the dipstick、insert and pull it to...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

It’ll continue to extend the coverage to the newer MY’s as the time goes on, as Mazda has decided NOT to update the cylinder head for the 2.5L NA with cylinder deactivation since 2018 MY for various reasons. The cylinder head is still the same since 2018, the possibility of cracking will always...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

Yes it is based on your video. The oil leak from cracked head is from the back side of the cylinder head usually between cylinder #2 and #3. Just show the video to the Mazda dealer, and ask them to replace the head based on the Service Alert.

Have you shopped anything else lately? Almost everything goes up by not 5% or 10% , but 50% or 2X! And wait until the tariff goes into fully effect, the price for car parts will be even much higher! 😕

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

The Fumoto website stated the valve end won’t stick into the oil pan for CX-5 back then for my 2016 CX-5. To me they made the false claim back then. Can’t trust them anymore. You can measure the thread length between the valve and the female thread of the drain plug on the oil pan. Some...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

I also don’t like the Fumoto valve. In addition to slower drain, its end sticks into the oil pan too much and prevents more complete oil drain. Ask me how I know? Previous moderator Chris_Top_Her took his oil pan down and saw the case with a Fumoto valve although the Fumoto valve website...

    Observations Comparing My 2016 and 2019 CX-5

OP was comparing a 1st-gen 2016 CX-5 with 2.5L NA and a 2nd-gen 2019 CX-5 with 2.5L NA with CD. He feels the 2016 drives much smoother. This has nothing to do with the AT used on the 2.5T. Why the difference? Because the AT has been modified for the added CD on the 2.5L NA. And the...

    Observations Comparing My 2016 and 2019 CX-5

Huh? No, the TC change for CD changed the shift behavior. It actually makes it worse.

    Observations Comparing My 2016 and 2019 CX-5

IMO it’s all because of the CD. The AT has different design on TC and several other components to fight against vibration caused by CD. See this TSB and hope whoever who has the 2.5L NA with CD that their AT won’t develop this chirp noise problem due to premature wear-out of the single clutch...

DIY 2016~2021 CX-9 DIY Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill + Filter Change

Actually once you confirmed that the ATF level is in the dot area of the dipstick by following the factory instruction, I imagine you can put back in the same amount you’d drained with no problems thereafter for the ATF drain-and-fill.

    CX-5 Battery Replacement recommendation?

Used to recommend getting the Intestate Group 35 battery at Costco for the best value. But Costco has increased the price from $78.99 with 36-month replacement / 60-month prorated warranty before pandemic, to $123.99 with only 36-month prorated warranty. Not worth it now.
