Your car has GPS receiver to triangulate where your car is on earth. It needs 4 satellites visible to it. Your SD card has the map. Working together, they can show where your car is on the map. The SD card also contains extra info than map. e.g. speed limits, traffic lights, etc.
Got a '25 Premium Plus w/ iStop. Hated it first.
Then, I learned that when you press the brake gently enough, the iStop does not engage. After doing that, it does not bother me anymore.
I am sure most of you knew this already. Just saying.
My list:
All bought new.
'14 Mazda3: timing chain cover oil spot. No oil on the floor. No worry.
(Dealer wanted $1800 to fix it. God bless them.)
'16 Mazda6: belt tensioner. Nothing else.
'17 CX-5 (sold): belt tensioner. GPS SD card went bad. Nothing else.
'22 CX-5 Turbo...
I have ATF of my Mazdas(4) drained and refilled (+cleaning) every 30k miles.
That is, if you plan to keep yours for a long time.
I usually keep mine for 7-10 yrs.
To OP.
I am in Bay Area. I got TWO 2025 Premium Plus in my garage. Diff colors to tell...
Love CX5. It is the whole package.
I personally would avoid CX-30/50 due to their suspension.
CX-50 is lower and wider than a CX-5. It does feel smaller inside.. not sure why.
I sat in one several times at...
I had both Turbo CX5 (totaled) and a NA CX5 last year.
NA is adequate for city commute... struggle at hill climbing with loads.
The Turbo was fun to drive. MPG is about 1-2 less by my commute routes.
(Turbo has no iStop, no CD)
I dislike the iStop more than the CD. One can avoid iStop kicking...
New rule in CA for 2026.
California has launched a new pilot program called FAST to address drivers speeding over 100 mph.
The program allows the DMV to immediately review, suspend, or revoke licenses for extreme speeding.
Slow down people. ;)
I have four Mazdas since new (now 3)
'14 Mazda3: no tensioner issue
'16 Mazda6: tensioner leaked and replaced
'17 CX5: tensioner leaked and replaced. (sold)
'22 CX5: no tensioner issue (yet)
This issue seems to happen with model years '16-'18.
Bad tensioner was used by Mazda.
DIY-able if you...
I believe you. I still have a '14 Mazda3 (sGT) with 2.5N/A engine. I love driving it, though it is not a manual. Faster than my '16 Mazda6 (same engine), and '17 CX5 (same engine, sold). Not sure about '22 CX5 Turbo....
Got both until a couple months ago when I sold the N/A to a co-worker.
Good points from many before me.
I want to mention that, MPG wise, Turbo is worse by 1-2 mpg on my commute (mixed 50:50).
As many said, very rewarding offline, highway passing, and hill climbing.
Do you have to have your turn signal on in a turn only lane?
National law requires all automotive vehicles to have operational turn signal devices installed and that drivers use those signals to indicate any lane change or turn. And yes, that goes for turns performed in designated turning...
At this point, I am more concerned about transmission. Look is fine with me.
There is a rumor that next CX-5 will continue using the current 6-speed.
I hope Mazda wakes up... To me, that is the weakness of current gen.
MPG, that is. 8-speed helps.
This issue happens more likely to vehicles parked under the sun longer and more often.
I have four Mazdas (sold one recently). They spend/t most of their time in garage. This never happens to any of them. Oldest one I got is '14 Mazda3.
