Signs of a Blown Head Gasket

Forgive me for not reading the whole thread from beginning but were the coils , plugs and injectors OEM? If coils aren't, have you swapped #4 coil with other cylinder that's not misfiring.

2013~2016 CX-5 AC Not Working After Long Sleep

Good thinking. I like the idea of a variable resistor. Does Mazda service info have a graph of that sensor (possibly having temp vs resistance values) for enabling troubleshooting the sensor. That would allow obtaining a variable resistor of relevant resistance range and maybe give a good idea...

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

Why hello, good to see you back. Haven't noticed any postings in a while. No surprise there about the Castrol in my experience. After switching from 0/20 to 5/30 I tried a variety of brands/types. The Edge 5/30 seemed on the thinner side and got thinner in usage. Got darker faster compared to...

Sluggish frequent pedal/throttle response. Need suggestions

I believe it has to do with when 2nd is selected in manual mode. I remember that if 2nd manual is selected before moving, like starting out on a slippery surface such as snow, it will stay in 2nd when stopping. If 2nd manual is selected while moving it will downshift to 1st at a stop.

What is this part and can I get it already painted?

I understand what you're saying. Last fall, prior to applying 3 coats of ceramic wax, I gave it a good rubdown with polishing compound followed by alcohol wipedown. The polish made an improvement but I figure it's as good as it's going to get. Or as good as I'm going to try. Don't want to try...

2013 CX-5 Rear Brakes - Recommendations for Tool to Retract Caliper?

The "cubes" are garbage, the little nibs break off. Needle nose pliers might break off if the pistons are hard to turn. Avoid frustration and delays and get a kit. I got mine years ago for ~$20 on ebay and there's lots to choose from Here's the kit I have with r/h and l/h turning screws for...

What is this part and can I get it already painted?

Nothing wrong with taking care of your car. You are correct, that is plastic. I just checked with a magnet. No big surprise since everything seems to be plastic these days. For some reason I always thought it was metal. Anyways, on my Liquid Silver CX-5 the roof always looks duller than the rest...

What is this part and can I get it already painted?

I thought that piece encircled in yellow is metal, not plastic and would have to be color matched if faded. Sounds like a lot of trouble and expense. Is it really that noticeable? Obviously it's yours to do what you want but mine's a little older than yours (being a 2014) and I'd put the money...

Need help, metal flakes in oil and oil burning

I saw that also but 1.25 qts in 7k miles isn't what I'd consider an oil consumption problem or indicative of damage.

    I've done the same before.

Need help, metal flakes in oil and oil burning

Some of those look like little balls which remind me of little pieces that have been bounced around for a long time to assume that shape. I wonder if some metal ,from somewhere obviously which would be concerning, has been bounced around inside the balance shaft assembly in the oil pan. At first...

    Obsessive compulsive car care habits

Not familiar with SNS. Thinking about it, I had also picked up a bottle of Griot's Speed Shine. Sometime after the ceramic coats and before it got colder weather, I applied it after wiping the dust off. It really didn't improve the ceramic gloss very much if at all. It's more of a...

    Obsessive compulsive car care habits

OCD? No, one look at the interior will dispel that notion but it's not filthy at all. I had given up on even doing quick wipe-n-shines until last fall. The spray waxes never seemed to last long and didn't seem worth the effort. So I started off (not all in one session obviously) cleaning...

    CX-5 Turbo water pump leak?

Interestingly, I learned my lesson about cheap starters back in the early 1980's when a cheap auto parts chain store "reman" chewed up the flywheel on my boat tailed '73 Riviera with a big 455. Didn't save any money buying that cheap starter considering I had to source a ring gear and then drop...

    CX-5 Turbo water pump leak?

With aftermarket parts being a crapshoot these days, the difference may be that the Stant of yesteryear isn't the same as the Stant of today in terms of quality. I've learned to pick and choose using OEM Mazda or quality aftermarket, preferably Japanese, and from suppliers who OEM to...

    CX-5 Turbo water pump leak?

Grounding Cylinder Head Test Results (2024 CX-5 Turbo)

That new toy looks familiar (LOL). Your reading of 17.68 A on that wire confirms the validity of the 15A and 18.9 A readings I got under same conditions as yourself (headlights on and blower on high. It'd be interesting to see what you measure on the wire attached from the battery negative...

Grounding Cylinder Head Test Results (2024 CX-5 Turbo)

I agree about accuracy with the Kill-a Watt but I think it's super useful for tracking usage and computing cost. The line splitter works good enough for my purposes, at least for now. I have however contemplated buying a KaW a few times in the past but couldn't justify it. *** PSA -- as of now...

Grounding Cylinder Head Test Results (2024 CX-5 Turbo)

Great. I hope it works for you. I got it because it seemed like a decent unit for only about $10-15 more than the XYZ brands. Anyway, I don't know your experience with electrical matters but this is my first clamp meter whose purchase was inspired by AL Cx5's interesting posts here and my...

Grounding Cylinder Head Test Results (2024 CX-5 Turbo)

This is the clamp meter I have. It's pretty sensitive and smaller than some but doesn't have a bigger ,brighter display that other brands offer and is limited to 100 amps (which is fine for my uses). I got it because OWON is a real instrument company and feel it would give better reliability and...
