    Lowest Mileage MP5's

WOw. I was feeling all proud of just now hitting 45,000 on my '03. Of course I bought it 12 months ago w/ only 27,5. Still had the New Car smell. Which is just now gone thanks to leaving my sunroof open overnight last week when it rained for the first time in 2 months. Grrrr.

    Oil filter drainback

Is the Motocraft filter for these cars supposed to drain back when you remove it (e.g. have a drainback valve it it) or not? I can't ever remember. It didn't last time I replaced it. Bugs me.

300000Km P5, Deal or no Deal?

I'm surprised nobody has latched onto teh fact that this vehcile is only 5 years old. 214k miles in only 5 years is a snotload of driving. What's the history on it? Are these the original owners? Knowing how/why that kind of mileage was racked up will answer 90% of the questions raised. E.g...

    Break in radio antenna line?

Just an update, since some folks asked about it. No problems with it since last post. This is by FAR my least favorite kind of problem. Maybe it DID just need to be washed.

    Break in radio antenna line?

Definitely NOT engine EMF noise... (A) it's not cyclic or RPM variable like that, and (B) it does it when the key is just to ON but the engine isn't on yet. today it sounded great. I wasshed my car yesterday. Maybe that's what it needed, lol.

    Break in radio antenna line?

OK, so here's the oddity. First off, no cganges, mods, accidents, incedents, etc. Only thing even close is that teh evening I noticed it was my last welding class and I'd thrown in about 100lbs of metal in the back (made some rock sliders for my truck). So yesterday wife and I were driving...

    Break in radio antenna line?

My radio reception has suddenly become terrible, for stations I have always received clearly - as though the antenna line has either become disconnected or barely hanging on... or maybe something intefering... Before I go following the wires, tracing circuits and reading diagrams, are there any...

Need help regarding crank pulley bolt!!!

re: very stuck crank pulley bolt, here is an old school trick. Even though the issue is resolved, thought I'd put it in for posterity. Disclaimer - I've not tried this on this motor, just others, so somebody tell me if it's not possible... But anyway, leave the motor to where you can crank it...

Regearing speedo... to cut down on speeding...

I never said it was the tires fualt, or the gauges fault. This is a problem that *I* have, and I am trying to help myself work towards doing something about it. i'm sorry, but "just stop" is useless advice. When people try to kick other habits (alcohol, smoking, nailbiting), you do not say...

I agree! Missed your post while I was replying.... Many times the difference between 70 and 75 is a ticket!

Regearing speedo... to cut down on speeding...

I'm sorry, I think you guys are missing my point. This isn't intended as a debate about how much error I have. I went from 195 to 205 width (5% - 10/195) w/o chanaging aspect ratio, so that should be the error in total circumference too. I never said I'm getting pulled BECAUSE of the error. I'm...

Regearing speedo... to cut down on speeding...

Ok, so, I just got another speeding ticket yesterday, thats 2 in < 2 months. Now the obvious solution here that I am trying to work on is *slow the hell down*. The problem is that I honestly do not realize I am going that fast. In order to help me with this, I'd like to remake my speedometer...

How did you get that? Is that a Canadian option thing?

    Warranty options

See, this is *exactly* why I was so pissed to find that Mazda does not provide an option of extending the *factory* warranty. Not buying an extra warranty from a 3rd party. For example, in '99, we bought a '97 Saturn from the dealer. It was in fab shape, but we had both just gotten out of...

    Warranty options

'03 P5, only 34,2 on clock. My warranty runs out in April. No problems that I know of, runs like a top. When I asked the dealer about purchasing a factory warranty extension, I was suprised to be told that they don't do that, but rather ssell a "new" warranty... and on more probing to find that...

    Driving position with manual tranny

If you really want to limit clutch travel - tape a peice of wood to the back of it so it won't go all the way down, lol. But, as mentioned, you have to be careful about this b/c if the clutch isn't really fully engaged every time, you'll weart hat bad boy out fast.

    Tire benefits - 205 vs 215

Maybe what you need are beadlocks, lol. That would kick ass. http://rockcrawler-mrt.com/16inchwheel.html http://rides.webshots.com/album/275972756iREgjD

    Tire benefits - 205 vs 215

The number refers to milimeters width of the tire. So, yes, a 215 is wider than a 205 by 10 mm. Of course if you are very picky, the actual width is affects by the rim width as well.

    Replacement of front bearing

The most "fun" (meaning PITA) part of the job is getting the axle shaft loose soe you can pull the whole hub off. Here's an example of the pain: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123661108 Re: getting the bearing pressed out - no, not a big deal, take teh whole hub to a shop...

HELP!!! Half shaft removal, stuck nut!

Yup, whole thing comes out of the tranny. it's held into teh differential wit ha little C-clip deal, basically w/ enoug hforce it will "pop" out. If you can get the room/leverage, best bet is a crowbar right up in where it enters the tranny, and whack that badboy w/ a mallet. Profanity is...
