Congrats on the purchase! These are indeed fun cars to drive. You shouldn't have any reliability issues. Miatas, over time, have proven that and reward the owner with many miles of top down zoom.

Welcome! I'm glad to see another Miata owner on here :). Nice looking car...it's very clean under the hood. The "code", if you will, for your car as it falls between 90-97, would be an NA Miata. 99-05 is an NB, and '06 and newer is NC.....not that any of that really matters anyway.

A dead blow mallet would be a better choice, but if you must use a hammer, be gentle. It doesn't take much to compress the snap ring. Looking at your picture, you need to add a lot more grease. Coat the bearings and all races. Then toss a handful into the boot.

The fill plug is the same size as the drain plug. It's, if I remember correctly, toward the front of the car. You can fill from the axle, but the tranny takes a bit more than what you're able add from there. Don't use ATF. Stick to 75w90.

Stick with the factory recommended oil weight. Synthetic wouldn't hurt.
