Think about this: the clutch is a wear item, the tranny is not. Abuse the clutch, NOT the tranny. Always slip the clutch when "launching." When I truly launch for speed, I don't even shift all the way out of 1st before slipping it into 2nd. I keep the clutch halfway depressed and slip...

If the differential is designed to operate with the split as 100/0 99.9% of the time, and you change it so that it operates 50/50 100% of the time... be prepared to go through a lot of differentials... The WRX's system drives the back wheels all the time. It's only when there is wheel...

At 30k it's not a viable alternative to the wrx; it would be competing with the STi which would eat it for lunch... Seems like more of a competitor to the Legacy GT, as long as they keep the price down...

I have seen more and more Mazda's here over the past 2 years. I even see more old model protege's. Now, I see more Mazda6's and even saw a new sport wagon. If I could have those external looks and my wrx's innards, I would be in heaven. :D Perhaps there actually will be an awd turbo Mazda...

True, the Mazda has much more HP. I wonder what the weight on the xA is? Once you get into options, the xA can get a bit spendy as well. -spec

Two things: First, they don't have to widen the car in order to make more legroom for the driver necessarily. Second, my wrx's clearcoat is super-thin too and I had my hood replaced not 6 months ago, and I have about 10 bb-sized chips in it already not to mention several long, deep scratches...

Umm... are you guys looking at the 2004 model? The hp/torque increase over the mazda 3 are significant. Also, it has a Brembo brake kit as an option - I don't see how that kind of stopping power would be inferior to a mazda 3??

Howdy! I was just wondering what the gas mileage is on the Mazda 3? (Real-world, not what's quoted.) My WRX is supposed to get up to 27mpg but I have to fill the tank after only 230 miles. :rolleyes: So, what are you guys actually getting in the Mazda 3?
