Sweet. I'm curious to see your thoughts on how a light flywheel is to manage on a daily basis.

    Bilstein PSS-10 Ride height

Most likely your strut mount bearings and upper mounts are shot if you hear it sitting still. It's possible they've collpsed and are rubbing rubber on rubber under certain conditions.

    Mazda 2 / Demio thoughts?

I average 37-39mpg usually and don't push it much past 300mi(482km) on a tank. That is basically ideal highway driving no accidents or backups. Worst I've encountered on this commute is about 34mpg. That is sitting in traffic like this... Backup up about 5+mi, 10+ on ridiculously bad days. It...

    Mazda 2 / Demio thoughts?

I've been driving 100mi per day(160km) to work and back since July with no real problems. I'm just short of 70k miles now, have owned it since about 30k. I DID have a misfire intermittently at idle around 50k miles... The stock plugs looked fine with nothing wrong(gap OK, etc), but replacing...

    Rear wiper spray

Yeah, its horrible if there is road salt all over the car. It grinds the wiper blades for a couple swipes before fluid gets near it. If you're completely stopped. Its takes longer to clear the window if you're moving.

    flatlander937's Mazda2 build - SCCA STF / NASA NXF

My son helped swap tires/wheels a few weeks ago... And got my used oil analysis back today. I was doing this to track silicon content from the DDMWorks filter install. The good news is the DDMWorks intake/K&N filter works perfectly adequately at just a hair more silicone over...

    Tire Choices

I was running my Continental winter tires in 90 degree weather commuting from VA Beach to Newport News daily since July. On a stuff suspension they are numb as heck to drive, but I am doing it because I really don't need winter tires in VB, and I can't sell them for anything worth getting out...

    Mazda 2 STF Autocross Build

I agree with you, I also am not a fan of the 6ULs on our cars. It's basically those or TR C1s, or one of the Konig wheels a few they offer in 7.5 width. I chose the C1s myself and they've grown on me a lot. It helps they're dirt cheap too. :p Bottom line you want a 7.5 wide wheel though. Those...

    Mazda 2 STF Autocross Build

There's also the 949 6UL: http://949racing.com/15x7.5-6UL.aspx Just a bit more than the others, but available in 7.5 wide which is a big benefit for autocross. You want all the wheel width you can get. How competitive are you looking to get? If just casual autocrossing then normal springs...

Looks good Zach! What did you use on the headlights? That's something I've been meaning to do myself.

What did you do to your Mazda2 today?

Did an oil change yesterday with PP 0W20 and a Fram TG7317(larger than the TG6607 that is specified). I cut open the old filter(a Purolator PureOne PL14612) due to many reports that they have been reading and not filtering properly. I was relieved to find no tears and everything was good after...

    Mazda 2 2009 stall

Honda Fits exhibit this same behavior when the valve lash gets out of spec. I'd have the lash checked.

How many miles has your Mazda2 traveled?

Not high mileage myself yet at 65k... But I see used ones through work pretty commonly when being reconditioned for resale. The ONLY problems I've seen: a window switch failed, a leaking oil pan gasket, a leaking timing cover gasket, and a bad thermostat. Those were among 3 different cars...

    New Tune update...

I don't know what you're hearing. You exclaimed that the whoosh/pssshh noise in the video was valve float. You hear this same noise with a stethoscope on the valve cover? Or is it tapping/ticking? Holding steady RPM? Not shifting right? On a dyno under load? Or free revving in neutral? Is your...

    New Tune update...

...because you are literally the only person who believes this. Every B-spec cars revs to 7300. Many who autocross do more than that. Dynotronics has done tons of testing with these and no problems with stock cams floating valves. Maybe Joe can provide a dyno graph of 7500+RPM? I'm a 10yr...

    New Tune update...

I'll be tuning my own car pretty soon. I'll have the limiter set to 7450 and hit it and see for myself. Either way the point is that valve float cannot be diagnosed via YouTube video.

    New Tune update...

It's not the exact same car. Different intake setups, hood open, etc. was what I was referring to. It's not hitting the clutch that makes the noise, it shifting then opening the throttle right after. Creating huge vacuum then no vacuum air is rushing past the throttle body making noise. As I...

    New Tune update...

7300 real RPMs. These cars just don't have aggressive cams and valves are tiny and light, tons of pressure isn't needed. I can't find any info on the Z6 since we didn't get it here, my bad. I am about 99% positive its not valve float. You posted a completely different car. And he's not...

    New Tune update...

The Pirelli World Challenge Mazda 2s rev to 7300 with stock head and valves. I guarantee they're not floating valves on a sanctioned spec engine setup. Edit: also ZY is not the same as a ZM head. I'm looking at cam specs now, they are similar but not identical. For the record ZY valve spring...

    New Tune update...

That noise is generated from air rushing while the runner flaps are open while throttle body closes(stopping airflow immediately) then opens(rushes past again). You will not hear valve float.. Even still it would show up on the dyno as a super shaky graph at high RPMs.
