I'm going to be picking up a 17x7, 205/40/17 set of wheels. Only issue is it is +40 offset. Need some feedback on whether this will rub or not or if it is a good choice. Should I up the size to 205/45/17? Thanks all.

How much rubbing will you have with the 17x7 +40 if on stock springs/struts? Let's say the tire size is 205/40/17? I've heard mixed reviews on whether it will rub or not...

On gas lid it says 87. So I use the 87 since it works fine.

I own a Protege 5. The OEM 17" rims on the Optima have the same bolt pattern as us (5x114.3) but I'm unsure of the size of the hub and the offset. I tried using tirerack and discounttire as info sources but couldn't find any useful information. Anyone out there know?

So you're saying DON'T go with 205/40/17 because of the looks? How did it drive though? Also wondering, were the mazda3 rims a direct fit onto the protege? It had the correct offset? (Other than tire rubbage which was addressed earlier)

SO is the consensus now that 205/40/17 is too small because it messes up the speedo or because it just doesn't look good? Can someone else post pics of their 205/40/17 setup? Is the only benefit from this size the lack of rub if lowered? Thanks.

Yeah I ran coilovers before on my Jetta. But now that I'm an Mazda owner, coils are much more expensive for some reason. Alright thanks for the info guys.

I'm planning on lowering my car on the stock struts. Only thing is, I'm really wondering if the brand on the springs really matter that much? Only concern is maybe spring-rates, but all after market springs have a firmer spring rate anyways. So, for example stuff like this-...

Where can you find short shifters other than the TWM for sale anyways? Ie. Kartboy, B&M? I'm also curious as to where I can get weighted knobs for under the $99 TWM sells them for.
