Signs of a Blown Head Gasket

I’m lazy and just Googled “P0017 code Mazda CX-5” and here’s the result from its “AI Overview”: ”The P0017 code on a Mazda CX-5 means the crankshaft and exhaust camshaft (Bank 1 Sensor B) aren't synchronized, often due to low/dirty oil, a faulty oil control valve (OCV) solenoid, a stretched...

Signs of a Blown Head Gasket

Actually the leak around the OCV is a known issue and it’s actually coming from the VVT solenoid / oil control valve (OCV), part no. PE01-14-420A, itself, not caused by rubber seal / grommet for the OCV. This has been discussed many times in this forum. Oil patches on Engine cover - 2022...

Signs of a Blown Head Gasket

OCV is prone to leak. Hope you’d installed a new one before you installed the valve cover. The belt tensioner is also prone to leak. Looks like you do have a new one. Although INA makes the belt tensioner for Mazda, but based on the discussion between @Digbicks1234 and @PatrickGSR94, we...

    Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor question

Thanks for the update. Since you have a 2018 2.2L diesel, your CX-5 can’t be a US model. Where are you located, and how many miles on the vehicle?

Anyone bothered by the poor front LED lights?

Somehow I have to agree with you on this. But ALH with no moving parts is a lot more advanced for headlight design, even if it uses LED arrays.

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

No, the cylinder head itself has airways been the same on the 2.5L NA with cylinder deactivation since 2018. MNAO did create a new part number for a complete cylinder head set with valves and other things pre-installed to shorten the labor time of head replacement. See post #588 above.

Anyone bothered by the poor front LED lights?

Wow, that’s too bad! I always thought DOT / NHTSA has approved the adaptive matrix LED headlights and we eventually will get it very soon, NOT! 👎🏼

Anyone bothered by the poor front LED lights?

No, not just low-beams and high-beams. Watch the CX-3 ALH video in post #23 above.

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

Thanks for the detailed explanation as usual! 👍

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Then you must need a new door check arm. In my case whenever the creaking noise starts happening from the check arm, a lubrication job even with WD-40 would quiet it down nicely and for a long period of time.

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

My guess is your use of Valvoline MaxLife ATF has accelerated the front input bearing wear, hence the whining noise. Read what the transmission expert @sinistriel@ says about ATF differences. Mazda ATF-A7 Trans Fluid A fit-everything multi-purpose fluid simply can’t meet all different specs...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Can you use the grease or liquid grease spray to lubricate the check arm and eliminate the creaking noise?

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

TSB No.: 05-002/19 Whining Noise from Automatic Transaxle Actually this's the 7th revision on the same TSB for the same transmission whining noise due to front input bearing failure since 2014. Each time the TSB says "This is caused by a damaged bearing in the transaxle due to improper...

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

But the Valvoline MaxLife ATF bottle doesn’t say it meets Mazda “FZ” spec, hence it isn’t FZ compatible, period.

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

But he did drain-and-fill 3 times, which means about 87% of his ATF would be Valvoline MaxLife. If the whining is indeed from his transmission after the ATF change, I’d say the Valvoline MaxLife could be the culprit, at least it’s one of the added factors to cause the transmission whining.

Anyone bothered by the poor front LED lights?

Totally agree! This advanced matrix-type LED headlight setup, or adaptive driving beam (ADB) headlights, is so much better than all the LED headlights we can see here in the US. And it’s been available in Europe and Asia for more than 10 years now but we can’t have it here until recently due...

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

Valvoline MaxLlife ATF for Mazda’s SkyActiv-Drive transmission? No, I won’t use it. “Multi-purpose” fluids serve me no good unless I have no choice. I’d use only OEM ATF FZ or A7 (for newer MYs), or at least any name brand ATF with “FZ” or “A7” spec. I would be very cautious about...
