    protege5 mpg ??

Yeah, I get that sometimes (160 @ mid tank), but still get 300 miles out of that tank.

    protege5 mpg ??

I get about 320-330 miles per 11.5~12 gallons (gas light to full, every time). Which is about 26~27 and that's with 5~10 miles commutes at 60-70mph. Stock. Manual. Have you tried getting an alignment? After I got one done, I went from 300miles per tank to about 320-330 which is 1-2mpg difference.

What have you done to your P5 today?

I bought the 4-mount pack from amazon for about $130. Did the passenger and the tranny mount in a few hours and then went to do the front mount (which is the absolute easiest to get to), but could not get the damn center nut off. I let it sit and clunk for a few months before spending a few more...

What have you done to your P5 today?

Finally. Finally. Switched out the front motor mount. Could not get that damn nut off. Soaked in in PB, cranked on it until it completely turned round. So finally bought a dremel and cut that nut into 3 pieces and hammed on it until fell off. Car drives like new! And now with the motor...

Was changing the valve cover gasket... sheared off bolt head in the head.

Stopped by a few places, got quotes $100~160 (basically the cost of a valve gasket repair), then went to the dealership to order some bolts. Got home and despondently poked at the remains of the bolt with a pick through the cover... managed to make it rotate a whole turn just by twisting it...

Was changing the valve cover gasket... sheared off bolt head in the head.

Welp, I ****** up with using an ez-out type drill... Thought I was drilling in the center, but the bit wandered a bit too much to the edge so now it's pretty much tangent with the edge of bolt :( Looks like I gotta find a mechanic tomorrow. Yay me :/ Also, how much oil is there between the E...

    Motor Mount Replacement Suggestions

I went with some aftermarket motor mounts from amazon plus an OEM rear mount (that I still have to install). FYI: The passenger side OEM motor mount will run you 2-3x more than a set of 4 aftermarket mounts. It's also the easiest one to replace (about 15 minutes worth of work). Even if you get...

Was changing the valve cover gasket... sheared off bolt head in the head.

Anyone with a similar situation? This is on the upper left side (when looking from the front). I don't see any leaking and I've driven maybe 30 miles already. My only concern is that I might be leaking into the timing belt cover and that it's nigh impossible to notice if I'm losing oil there.

Rear End Link Length for Protege5

bad thing is I just changed all of the strut mounts too - but I may have forgotten to put on a tower washer here and there . . .

Rear End Link Length for Protege5

I got the K80868s after.. mistakenly getting the -9 (1" longer) version. They seem to work okay, but I've recently developed a creak in the rear that I can't find the source of...

You'll probably need to do your engine mounts..

    Motor Mounts

I purchased this set of mounts for my manual P5. So far I've done the passenger side (#3) and the transmission side (AKA driver AKA#4). I still need to do the front (AKA LOWER AKA #2) and the rear (#4). You're in luck though! #3 and #2 are the easiest mounts to replace. With the right tools...

    Bought a 02 Protege5. Struts busted?

If the suspension feels really stiff the struts may be new. When I bought my car, the struts were so gone that I was getting motion sickness due to the underdamping of the suspension. Doing the "bounce test" on the car also showed visible exaggerated oscillation. After replacing them, they're so...

When replacing the struts, what else should I replace?

K80868 is the right size :/ The 80869 is the MSP suspension version - we have the sport.

    Decent quality motor mount kit?

Haha! I can empathize with this. All the squeaking and groaning was irritating me so I took the car to a mechanic friend to take a look a it. When he gets in and we drive around...? Nothing, not a single squeak. But when I'm driving a date around, orchestra of crap! Anyway, I went with...

Is this engine mount going out?

What happened to that post that had the clear instructions (and the beautiful extension monster) on how to do the rear mount? I spent 30 minutes looking for it but could not find it.

    DIY headlight retainer clip

Eh.. I work as an engineer (not for a car company) and it's usually not the engineer's fault. Management is always coming down on us to make it cheaper and more reliable, but really cheaper.

Is this engine mount going out?

Jesus christ dude. Do you need $25 for an aftermarket mount? I'll gladly paypal you some money. I've stared at the mount some more and I can't tell if that big gap on the top is supposed to be there or not. My reasoning for that is that it doesn't make sense for there to be no material there...
