    Octane choice at high altitude

The engine will be more prone to detonation with low octane fuel in these conditions: Climbing mountain grades Driving in extreme hot weather Pulling a trailer Fully loaded vehicle with passengers The computer will pull timing and reduce power output if it senses detonation.

New Motor Trend Review Signature CX-5

Many people (probably tens of thousands) went out and bought a Honda CRV because MT made it the "SUV of the year" for 2018. Now, these people are stuck with a faulty engine that can experience catastrophic failure. So yes, when MT awards a vehicle "SUV of the year", sales increase for that...

New Motor Trend Review Signature CX-5

This is the REALITY of what Motor Trend is doing. Motor Trend has to save face for making the 2018 Honda CRV the 2018 SUV Of The Year. MT has egg on its face for giving the award to an SUV that is now recalled and plagued with engine failures. An engine and SUV that could not be legally sold...

Dave Coleman answers questions about Mazda i-Activ AWD

Drove mine through 4 inches of snow today. No problems whatsoever. Never got stuck. Went up steep road inclines with no problems. Other vehicles were getting stuck but the CX5 performed without issue.

Car and Driver 2019 CX5 article.

Did C&D state whether the speed times were done with SPORT MODE on or off? I notice in sport mode that the trans holds the gears longer and the shifts are faster than when in normal driving mode. I also think with AWD versions, when in sport mode from a dead stop, the computer puts power...

Car and Driver 2019 CX5 article.

    With a 0-60mph time of 6.2 seconds that should equate to a 14.90 @ 96mph in the 1/4 mile

Blown head gasket for CX-5 Diesel

Sadly, the Mazda diesel is a disaster. I had high hopes but all the problems they have been having, the design is flawed. Blown head gaskets are something that is not minor. Maybe it has something to do with the compression and lack of support studs/bolts in the block and head, which is not an...

2017~2025 Two questions about my 2019 CX-5 Signature

I had ACC on my 2016 and it was OK in light highway traffic but in medium to heavy highway traffic, it was not good. The problem like another poster said was that cars will keep cutting you off if you leave too big of a gap between vehicles. This will keep happening as once people see a large...

    Change automatic transmission fluid?

Part of the lifetime nonsense is due to the EPA and petroleum based fluids. The manufacturer tells the EPA, look we have a trans that the fluid never needs replacing so we are green and environmentally friendly. Yet, the stupidity is, would you rather replace the fluid every 50k miles or replace...

    Change automatic transmission fluid?

If someone thinks that transmission fluid will last forever and will never need changing. That person should forfeit their drivers license and just take mass transit. They should then have their picture placed in the vehicle maintenance hall of shame.

How to test Smart City Brake Support?

That's because the 2016 CX5 GT with Tech Package did come with a laser. I know because I owned one and it was mounted on the windshield and it had a warning saying it is a laser. In 2017+ Mazda got rid of the laser and went radar and camera only.

Test drove a '19 GT-R and Signature today

I agree. I use to visit the forum a lot since I joined over 10 years ago and discuss things Mazda but there are a handful of trolls on this site that destroy the site. So I don't visit as often. I don't like Unobtanium and can only tolerate so much but he has probably destroyed this site single...

How to test Smart City Brake Support?

Did Mazda give a reason for this? Costs? Is the laser system better or about the same as the radar & camera?

How to test Smart City Brake Support?

Didn't Mazda in 2017+ remove the laser and simply just go to a radar only system?

Test drove a '19 GT-R and Signature today

One thing I don't get is when people make a big deal about MPG when it's 35mpg vs 26mpg. When you actually run the #'s it's SO MINOR in the long term. CX5 Turbo = 26mpg highway vs CRV = 35mpg highway 50,000 miles / 26mpg = 1923 gallons of fuel used @ $3.00 per gallon = $5,769 50,000 miles /...

Test drove a '19 GT-R and Signature today

Any 0-60 times? 1/4 miles times? Non-turbo shows 7.7 seconds for 0-60 and 16.2 @ 87mph for 1/4 mile. I would figure the turbo version should see 6 second range and 1/4 mile times low 15's or even high 14's.

Test drove a '19 GT-R and Signature today

Most turbos fail at around 100,000 miles, IF not properly maintained (synthetic oil, 30-60 second cool downs, cold weather rips). That means we will not hear about any CX9 turbo failures until the engines start seeing 100,000 miles. For Mazda and other companies, as long as the warranty period...
