So the wire goes from the compressor to the clutch? I thought it went from clutch to another place up in the car. ;-) That's why I asked you if that was the wire in that photo.
Sorry to keep going back & forth on this.If I knew how to measure for a smaller belt and replace it, I would have already done that.
Paying $200. to $300. for putting a belt on seems like a rip off.
It looks like the Compressor Pulley is spinning but clutch is not and it shouldn't be.
Remember I...
Guess I can't upload a short video on here. Here's a picture. You can tell how tore up it is.
With car off I put a screwdriver on Clutch to see if it turned freely. It did not.
It's rubs against the pulley. I can turn it but not easily free flowing.
I still am not sure where wire is.
Also when...
With 5057 Posts I'm sure you help a lot of people. Thanks again. I'll try to take a picture of the 3 tore up nubs on the Clutch cover plate just so you can see how bad it is.
Besides safety, my other concern is getting stuck 30 miles away from home. It's a 30 mile commute to my job. Don't want to have to get towed.
I would never do what that guy did. Bad Karma is right. Cause & Effect. That's a bad cause and you will certainly get a bad effect from doing stuff like...
Yea if cutting the wire and keeping the 2- AC Fuses Out, does the trick, I'm not going to get involved in all that.
I was just really concerned for my safety and the belt snapping off while driving.
Originally though, months ago when I heard the rattling sound, I thought it could be repaired by...
Wow. Some great info here. That's why I love this Forum. Have not been on in years and in hours I get accurate information. I think I will just cut the wire for now.
Some repair shops make their living by putting fear into people who just don't know better.
Also,I have no idea if a smaller belt...
It's already failed. Even though the AC cannot come on? I pulled the Fuses.
So No possibility of AC compressor coming on or clutch becoming engaged.
A shop wants between $200 & $300. to Bypass.
OK so I had a noise every time I engaged the AC switch on in my car. A rattle. It would last 5 or 6 seconds and was intermittent. I drove the car like that for 6 months.
Now the AC does not come on and when I look inside car the AC Clutch was slipping & not engaging but now it does not turn spin...
I have a slight oil pan leak. My Left Crossmember Cap Popped Off and won't go back on because of Oil I guess. If I try to pop it in it just pops back out. Guess I need a new one.
Is it bad to drive around without the Cap on? I'm afraid debris will get inside. Thanks in advance.

I just got new Rotors & Brake Pads on Front & New Pads & Brake Drums on Back. Now every time I come to a full hard stop, I hear a Crunch Sound. Any ideas? Thanks! Protege' 2000 DX 1.6
I looked & I'm thinking it's One Phillips Head Screw On Top. Can it really be that easy? I'll find out once I get the Replacement Turn Signals in the Mail.
Front Turn Signal Light Replacement
The Lens fell off one of my Front Turn Signal Lights. So I just Ordered 2 so they will match & I would like to Replace both the Driver & the Passenger Side. I am replacing the entire fixture, not just the Bulb or Front Lens. I have a Mazda Protege' 2000 DX 1.6...
slavrenz,
Don't feel too bad. After buying the car at 90,000 Miles from a Coworker, I've replaced Radiator, EGR & now the Oil Pan Gasket needs to be replaced, which I'm told is a very Labor Intensive job on my Car. I'm now at 115,000 Miles.
