Subaru owner reviews AWD on Mazda CX 9

just my 2 cents, I first changed my transfer case oil @38,000 miles, since then I've been changing the transfer case regularly since I brought the car new and just hit 90,000 miles on my original transfer case that came with the car, still drives as smooth as day one. (I change the transfer...

Anyone receive the Warranty Extension Program SSP92 (Power Transfer Unit) letter ?

Right on point. Any improvement would have added a drain plug for easier maintenance intervals or added more oil capacity, if neither was implemented then 75W140 oil will still be stressed beyond it's application life and turn to sludge eventually.

CX-9 center dash is very similar to Range Rover HSE interior

something interesting, a friend came up for a visit in his 2012 Range Rover HSE and when I sat in it, I swore it looked like my CX-9, I never realized the design style was so similar : http://hooniverse.com/2012/04/02/review-2012-range-rover-hse/ at first I thought Land Rover plain ripped...

2007~2015 Changing CX-9 transfer case gear oil (photos)

just hit 88,000 miles with no problems long term update...... just hit 88,000 miles with no problems, transfer case still good with royal purple oil. CX-9's been the best car I've ever had so far, great handling and drives like a car instead of a large SUV. had the day off and...

    Mazda CX-9 evaporator drain clog

Glad you were able to fix it yourself !! Dealers charge $75 for two shots of compressed air , what a rip off !!! There's actually two ways to fix: 1) wet vac to suck out the debris or 2) the compressed air method. The latter may just be a temporary fix if the debris just gets jetted back...

    Sorry guys, another awd question.

Thanks for the info Vlad ! I never understood the parts in this video but now I get it, so the part laying on the worktable is around $250 USD ? or if anyone can translate what he's saying in the video ? now I guess the million dollar question is what is the part number and where to buy...

    Sorry guys, another awd question.

crap !! sorry Ridgerunr, the stupid transmission output spline is not sold separately ! info from 67mgb is correct, that piece is part of the whole transmission assembly. According to the diagram, the part is not serviced, anyone knows what that means? If enough of us start...

    Sorry guys, another awd question.

don't mention it Ridgerunr, I found something that might be useful, PTU removal / installation attachment: let me know if you need any of the sub-assembly instructions in blue, I'll PM them to you. I'm still trying to locate the transmission output spline (red arrow) p/n for you, it's...

$21 electric sunction extractor/transfer pump for transfer case oil changes

wow, great news, Pete. it definitely sounds like they serviced the transfer case at 85,000 miles. Which Mazda dealership did you have it serviced? I'm wondering if there's any value added to get the oil sample analyzed ? I'm not an oil expert so maybe an expert can chime in and add to the...

Gazillion Bubble Solution to locate hard to find slow tire leak :)

something funny guys, I'm sure everyone knows about the soapy water trick to find a slow tire leak but for the life of me, couldn't find the damn leak, I even tried 3/4 soap to 1/4 water solution but still couldn't find it. My 5 year old daughter walked by and asked what was I doing, i said I...

    Sorry guys, another awd question.

damn, that is what I was afraid of, I can't imagine the previous owner not notice the PTU gears crunching or the horrible sulfur type smell from the transfer case. hopefully the transmission splines are ok, and it's just a matter of swapping out the transfer case, all things considered, this...

$21 electric sunction extractor/transfer pump for transfer case oil changes

I go to Wantagh on Sunrise Highway/Wantagh Parkway, they're good guys, Google them and you'll see it's family owned and they get good reviews. They don't list the rear differential service, but I'm positive they offer it, I think it runs around $70 or $80, I'm not sure. just FYI, they...

    Sorry guys, another awd question.

I think it's doable if you have the right tools and have a high level of mechanical proficiency. One of the Ford Edge guys was able to remove it and disassemble it himself and drill out his own drain plug without any special dealer tools. see Amazon link, looks pretty basic to install, looks...

$21 electric sunction extractor/transfer pump for transfer case oil changes

there's no separate front differential in our CX-9, it's built into our transmission, that's why I service the transmission oil every 30,000 miles no matter what Mazda says, that transmission oil is working hard all the time. also see voldsom's explanation below and in the link ...

    Sorry guys, another awd question.

the long shaft that runs the length of the vehicle from the front transfer case to the rear differential, see picture below. might be a good idea to mark the shaft with a temporary small white tape so the two guys in the front turning the wheels can easy spot if the shaft is turning or not.

    Sorry guys, another awd question.

sorry to hear about your problem, I know you mentioned you can see the drive shaft turning but did you follow this Mazda procedure exactly and sequentially as listed, per the procedure below, it's a three person job. DON'T START THE ENGINE!! just turn it to ON position (this is just to...

$21 electric sunction extractor/transfer pump for transfer case oil changes

"Regarding the stubby wrench you used. Do you think the right size Allen wrench would work just as well?" I don't think there's enough room for a 3/8" Allen wrench, I could barely get my low profile ratchet in there, the problem is that there is another obstruction opposite of the plug. As...

$21 electric sunction extractor/transfer pump for transfer case oil changes

4wardmotion, are you sure they serviced the transfer case ? how much did they charge ? I'm just asking because it's not a standard service and I must have asked at least 5 local dealerships and every one of them said the transfer case is sealed and couldn't be done. see pictures below from...
