New to MazdaSpeed World, need a little help

The stock computer / MAF / Injectors do not have alot of headroom for making more power. If you start to flow more air than the stock setup can compensate for then you will hit "fuel cut" which is basically the stock ECU trying to save the engine as there is no way for it to add the correct...

Need help with turbo and exhaust issues

If the wastegate is stuck open you will not make boost. If there is a hole or leak I'm your intercooler piping you will not make boost. If all you need is to get the car back on the road even a shop like midas can fab up an exhaust pipe. From the stock downpipe back to the muffler with stock or...

Need engine source for Mazdaspeed Protege

Type in your postal code and search for entire engine. The MSP turbo kit, oil cooler, windage tray etc. will all bolt right up. Everything is the same otherwise. Swap your existing intake and exhaust manifold over with new gaskets. Don't cheap out on the gaskets. Removed old engine, swap...

    ECU Identification

Sounds like your ECU is doing exactly what it is supposed to do if you are over-boosting. This is a very common issue and the ECU is most likely trying to stop you from blowing up the motor. There is very little headroom for increasing the boost on the stock ECU/MAF/injectors. Step 1. IMO...

    Mazdaspeed Protege FSZE engine

I have not posted in years but i had to reset my account just to say, In my experience you will destroy the connecting rods, rod bearings and the differential in the transmission if you make too much power too low in the RPM range. Torque at low rpm kills these motors. I had gone through like...

FS: Custom 1.8 BP ITB Setup

FS: 1.8BP Custom Made ITB Setup This is a custom made setup I created for my previous car (03 MSP with 1.8BP swap). I got the car running on this manifold when I first did the 1.8bp swap into my 2003 MSP and was running n/a, however I never got around to building a proper plenum...

    Jeff's MSP GTR Build

well after 11 years of zoom zoom and almost 300,000km of fun I sold the MSP to Lukas (SilverProto5 on toprotege.com) and we are putting the drivetrain into his clean 1st gen protege. Not sure what his plans are for my spicy but here is a link to his 1st gen build thread...

High compression low boost VS low compression high boost

just read up on all the people who have or at least have talked about turbocharging the jdm fs-ze. its a n/a 10:1 compression version of the engine thats in your car. theres been lots of discussion over the years. generally speaking its a waste of time. if you have a great cylinder head that...

there is a guy selling a awd mx3 on toprotege.com that he made using a gtr drivetrain/rear end and is selling for cheap. i have thought about the swap quite a bit since i am already running a bp in my msp and the gtx/r awd trans bolt on fine. the easiest way i can figure for my setup would be...

Help Selecting Springs To Match Illuminas

hmm. well it seems all of the springs i can find with a rating are 280F 230R Im guessing most are pretty similar since pretty much every companies target market is stock weight vehicles. Im thinking there is no proper way to do it without a custom spring rate. so in other words, I guess I...

Help Selecting Springs To Match Illuminas

Hey guys, To start I will let you know that I am not much of a suspension junkie. I have a set of tokico illuminas (for a regular protege, not MSP specific) that I am trying to match with a set of springs. What makes it a bit tricky is that I am down ~250 pounds less than stock, almost all...

    why!!!!!

MSP owners (like myself) are usually just cheap and allergic to spending money. a MSP costs less than practically anything you would compare it too, but then owners wonder why a stock FS motor cant pump out 300+ all day long for 10 years. Id take a MSP + cash difference over pretty much any...

    why!!!!!

when you think about it at 260HP you are doubling the output of a stock FSDE, so keep that in mind with regard to how long the stock engine will last (even with supporting bolt on mods) at 275hp and decide if you are better off starting with a built motor. pretty sure a plug and play unichip...

    why!!!!!

what makes it "hard"? do you just not know what to do next with your setup or you cannot afford mods or? how fast did you really expect to go with an intake and exhaust as your only power adding mods? my advice would be to go for a drive in a car that you consider "fast". then go weigh your...

    Screamer Pipe

Lower Control Arms Dos and Donts

pickle fork. works everytime. since the arm is junk you dont need to worry about messing up the boot. just hammer the b**** in and it will pop 100% for sure. pickle forks are cheap.

    oil cooler setup

it is the piece that the oil filter screws into on the MSP. It has cooling lines running to it to help equalize the temperatures of the oil/coolant. I do not know of anyone with a protege other than actual track cars (not driven on the street) that have actually needed an oil cooler.

    oil cooler setup

have you actually logged oil temps that would call for a aftermarket oil cooler yet? do you plan on running lap after lap at the track? for a street car it just seems like extra weight. plenty of people running sweets setups with no oil temp problems just using the stock heat exchanger on the...
