New Revised Mazda OEM Oil Filter? Pics

Yeah, I knew these were the "cheaper" filters but the last Value one I bought had a louvered metal tube instead of this plastic one. I may call the dealer to see if they have the regular filters.

    SkyActiv Oil Analysis Thread

Since we're on the subject of oil consumption: I owned a 2004 Acura RSX Type S. These weren't particularly known for burning oil...some did but most didn't. I followed the 10k "recommended" schedule up until my oil light came on around 55k. The engine took maybe 4 qts and I had burned through...

New Revised Mazda OEM Oil Filter? Pics

Just picked up an OEM oil filter for my 2015 CX5 GT and noticed it has a new part number and no longer has the louvered metal tube. It looks like they've done away with that and now have a plastic tube instead. Does that look correct? It's also made in the USA. I'm sure it's fine but it threw me...

Burping Coolant: How Do You Know When The Thermostat is Open? 2015 CX-5

The fill port on the CX5 (at least my model year) has a little extension or neck so it’s not sitting directly over the radiator…maybe more problematic to burp? My garage floor is at a bit of a slope. I didn’t jack the front of the car up. But the bubbles subsided mostly. There were extremely...

Burping Coolant: How Do You Know When The Thermostat is Open? 2015 CX-5

Quick update on this. Did the process a few days ago. Everything went great but it took FOREVER for my thermostat to open due to it being in the high 30s here. I ultimately had to rev the engine to get it to open but having the rpms up also helped purged the air out of the system a little faster...

Help: CX-5 Coolant Leak, needs new engine

Wow, that's interesting to see Mazda on the buyer's side and against the dealer. Sounds like this problem is so prevalent that they're being proactive (as to avoid the mess of a class action possibly?).

Burping Coolant: How Do You Know When The Thermostat is Open? 2015 CX-5

Awesome. I have a Bluetooth scan tool. Haven’t used it in ages. I’ll have to dust it off and see if it works with the Mazda.

Burping Coolant: How Do You Know When The Thermostat is Open? 2015 CX-5

First the TL;DR 2015 CX5 with 98k. This fall I started doing my own oil changes and noticed my coolant reservoir was completely empty. Not knowing much at the time I filled the reservoir halfway and topped off the radiator with Xerex coolant (the “Asian vehicles” green stuff) and called it a...

Dad took CX-5 at 56k miles in for routine maintenance and these were the recommended repairs

The manual kind of contradicts itself because before they list the conditions stated above they say to follow schedule 1 if the vehicle is operated MAINLY where none of those conditions apply. Ok, fair enough. But then below that list it states if ANY of those conditions apply then follow...

Dad took CX-5 at 56k miles in for routine maintenance and these were the recommended repairs

I would also keep in mind that there’s a regular maintenance and severe maintenance schedule. Pay attention to the fine print. I would assume most of us fall in the Schedule 2 maintenance (stop and go traffic, heavy braking, repeated short trips less than 10 miles). That calls for 5k mile oil...

Dad took CX-5 at 56k miles in for routine maintenance and these were the recommended repairs

I just started doing my own fluid changes and basic maintenance recently after a good 20 years of not doing it. I like saving money but I like knowing it was done correctly. I DIY almost everything on our house…built sheds, tiled my garage floor…renovated an entire house…but I HATED doing car...

Control Arm Shears off on a 2023 CX-50 with 2k miles

Saw this video and thought I’d post it. Same failure on an old Accord but check out the milky oil on this one. Not sure what caused this or if it’s just aeration and it just takes forever for all of the bubbles to pop? Who knows: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRv5R3fU/

Stopping that incessant rattle from the rear CX-5 hatch

I've had this rattle for years. I had already remedied the nuts working themselves loose that hold the rear spoiler on. I used threadlocker and that fixed that issue. But I still had another rattle that kept getting worse and worse. Banging on the spoiler revealed that those black plastic fins...

    CX-5 Aftermarket Pads and Rotors

@stickerbush Where I live I paid $240 (that's after a $130 off coupon) for just the rear pad replacement and rotor turning so you're saving A LOT. This is one of the reasons I decided to do this myself. I've done it in the past...took a good 20 year hiatus from doing DIY mechanic stuff...but...

    CX-5 Aftermarket Pads and Rotors

Crap…unfortunately I ordered Bosch rotors and pads a couple of days ago. I guess we’ll see how it goes. Not discounting your experience @Jmaz but I heard a lot of positive things about Bosch. I guess we’ll see. Compared to what I have on there now anything will be better. I’m fairly certain...
