I took out the two screws in the footwell, and took the center console off. Then I took the shift boot off and got to the silver shifter extension. What I did was take a lighter and melt the glue under the extension by holding the lighter under it. The extension looks like a silver cylinder...

For now it'll be an axleback, but once I get the money saved for it, I'll have the Magnaflow catback. Did some more work to the shifter, because the last one broke. So I put some electrical tape on there and tightened it, and voila! I'm really liking my new shift knob too.

Thanks man. Looking back on it, I wouldn't be surprised if the cop was just bored. There's tons of cars and trucks around my town that have blacked out taillights that have no issues. But I'll probably go with what CiviCity did with his cuz those look sick. Eventually the exhaust I'm getting put...

I'll probably do that Super Bowl sunday since I have no reason to watch it now. Probably gonna SeaFoam the intake since my idle is unusually low.. At about 500 when the block warms up, and idles at 1000-1500 when the block is cold. New plug wires and a CorkSport strut tower bar will be on the...

Did the stock shifter extension removal, and I gotta say, I like it. Gonna go to the junkyard this upcoming weekend and see if there's any Protege's I can pull stuff off of like badges and maybe a bumper or 2. I have plans to do the Evil M emblem soon as well as Plastidipping all of the emblems...

Removing Stock Shifter Extension Protege 5 2003

Did mine today with a lighter and some channel locks. I'm missing a screw to the shift knob so it has a little play to it, but once I find one it'll be nice and snug.

2003 ES 2.0, 133,XXX miles. Still starts on first try and runs alright. I think I need to regap the spark plugs though.

Took some pics this morning since I got a working phone.. Engine Bay The taillights partially fixed, it's too cold to do anything right now without taking them off. Kind of a crappy, snowy morning but I figured it's time for some recent pics. I should hopefully be getting the...

    Cold Air Intakes????

When I had my Pontiac Fiero, I'd take it off and clean it with a vacuum and bump it on something to knock the dirt off every few weeks or so, but that was because of where the intake was.. But the general rule is to clean it every 25,000 to 50,000 miles by doing the things I already mentioned.

Tried to pull the rear wheels off today but it's almost like they're stuck on. I went and coated the hub with WD-40 to try to loosen it up but no dice.. And my parking brake dash light is always on, but that might have something to do with the E-brake not working. And I'm looking for alternate...

Apparently hobos in my neighborhood since I live in a bad part of town. I was gonna have them removed eventually anyway, but not like that and I still wanted the big M badge in the back... So that kinda ruined my plans for getting those plastidipped.

Hey guys, relatively new to the forum and I thought I'd share the progress of my car with you all. Purchased my '03 ES 5 Speed in late August with 130,000 miles on it to replace my old beaten down and battered Pontiac Fiero. The timing belt had been replaced at 115,000, but it needs new wheel...

    GI/FS: p5/msp front bumper

Really wish I had the money for this right now as I've been looking for a MP3/P5 bumper for my ES... I'll see what I can do for finances but they're really tight right now.

    Random Protege Thread v2.0

For the most part I'm looking to do AutoX and cruising/daily driving. But since I'm only 19 and have a crappy job, my budget is fairly tight. One day I hope to have a pretty serious Protege, but for right now I'd be content with being able to beat most of the little riceburners in my town.

I've been trying to figure out what to do to my ES performance wise that's cheap. I have pulstar plugs and a CAI so far. I have a cat-back exhaust ready to be put on but I gotta get the money together first. Having a I4 is a new experience for me coming from an 86 Pontiac Fiero that had a V6 and...

    Mazda Protege Owner Photos

My '03 ES. Work in progress for sure. Cold Air Intake, painted rims and blacked out taillights are the only mods so far. Saving up for exhaust installation and other performance upgrades, along with rims eventually. (Rear badges were stolen)

    New around here...

Hey guys, my name is Steven. Most people call me Boost though. I recently had to let go of my 1986 Pontiac Fiero and ended up with a 2003 Protege ES 2.0. Gotta admit, the move from a mid engine, rear wheel drive sports car to a sedan has been a bit difficult to adjust to, but I'm getting there...
