The "What mods for a daily driven MSP?" Guide Thread

The only real reason for smic as mentioned in the guide is if you dont want to take the car apart. If you can go FMIC, and dont mind doing the work its alot better.

Lack of volume unfortunately. I also agree thats alot for a SMIC. Everything TH makes is expensive though.

What have you done to your MSP today?

So on my way home from work, every time i get near -10vac and above (heading toward boost not other way), the car bogs. No vac leak according to my boost gauge. So i limp the poor car home and decide to test coils and wires for resistance. Way under factory on everythng and i pull the plugs and...

What have you done to your MSP today?

basically just have the right size open wrench (i wanna say 9/16 or 7/16 cant remember) and then hold it up toward you at a 45-65 degree and turn it since theres no room. itll give you a little more space. thats what i did. just dont strip it

What have you done to your MSP today?

ever since my mam fmic install ive had the same problem. i have a heat exchanger there now and its been crap AC since. in fact i have a CS rad and im starting to think one fan isnt enough (since the pass fan is AC). I think im going to try to put the 2 slim fans on one circuit as the rad fans...

What have you done to your MSP today?

ha. i been in the game long enough to know what the msp can take. I was one of the few who actually spent the time to mod it right. and ive probably helped a few hundred msp'rs. my cars definately not going to blow.

10 psi seems to be a good medium for reliability. thats what i run and thats what i recomend to others once they have the supporting mods. i ran 12psi on the mpi on a 28rs but that scared me lol

How much have you spent on your protege?

I went through alot of parts so its hard to say. I was around during the MAM days so that cost me 5k with no return on investment lol. im probably in the 10k range but if i just listened to myself in the first place i would have spent alot less.

im sorry you hate the car. Honestly for all the problems people have, and the sheer amount of mods ive had on the car its been super reliable. Probably the most reliable ive ever had.

What have you done to your MSP today?

They must have changed it on 03.5 cause my exhaust side of the lip is just sagging like it was thuggin. Its like that 3m tape on mine front and rear. I bought the car new, I took the front off with goo gone and a sore thumb.

What have you done to your MSP today?

Typically when the water pump goes itll overheat no matter what cause it wont be circulating coolant. Even if the system is full its still vital its circulated or it will heatsoak. You wouldnt be able to drive the car if it was blown. Now if its on its way out itll still drive but youll see...

What have you done to your MSP today?

Bought a new Rad Cap. Apparently ive had the wrong one on my CS Radiator for 3 years. It was always a really slow leak but once the cap went bad i realized the problem.

it depends on what kit your using. if your using a MSP kit, then use the MSP parts (it basically has a few different hoses with branches to supply coolant to the turbo off the stock system. if your using a custom kit, you can still use the msp coolant hoses (most specifically the elbow with the...

    Turbo or Head gasket?

on the turbo, there is a water jacket for the coolant. the center housing which has both parts is cast and typically the dont open into each other unless you have a serious crack in the housing. usually when a turbo has seal issues its on the oil section (the piston seals) and you will get oil...

What have you done to your MSP today?

If your just replacing part of a wire, then just get the same gauge wire, solder and heatshrink it. its not special wire unless theres a fuseable link or its shielded (i think just the 02 wire is shielded).

    Corksport 80mm Exhaust

The cat will help a little bit, however the biggest reason its so loud is the straight through muffler. CS exhausts are notoriously loud. Did it come with a silencer? If not try one of those and see if it helps, it will restrict your exhaust but itll be quieter for daily driving. Exhaust leaks...
