Sounds like a bad thermostat maybe?

    Oil Filters

I remember reading a while back that the Mazda filters (both air and oil) have tested quite favorably, so that's what I've been sticking with. I've sent a few used oil samples off for analysis over the years and they've always come back positive, with notes that the filter is performing well.

    Highway driving

So am I. Yeah, they're no La-Z-Boy, but they really are better than the 3's seats, which have much denser/firmer padding in the seat.

    Highway driving

Honestly, I'd agree that a SkyActiv 3 would probably be a better vehicle for mostly-highway use. Above 65mph the fuel economy in the 2 starts to drop quickly. A SkyActiv 3 with the automatic will cruise at 70mph at 2,000 RPM and get 40+ MPG while doing it. That said, I do think the 2's seats are...

No New Mazda2 for the United States

OK, so you all probably don't want to hear this, but I'm going for it anyway: I think Mazda is right. They're right in that car forums don't reflect the trends of US carbuyers. Yeah, we want the new 2, but I bet the rest of the US would offer a collective "meh." I absolutely believe that...

    Maintenance Intervals too long?

That interval seems to be too long for the air filter -- I've been swapping them out every 15k because that's when they start to look pretty dirty. As for spark plugs, 75k is actually about right...the car ships with NGK Iridium plugs which are very high quality and have a long service life.

    Two key questions

jasyatz is correct. The thing to understand is that you're not actually programming the key to the car, you're programming the car to the key. The keys have a chip in them, and the ID on the chip (which the car reads) can't be changed. As a security precaution, Mazda makes you have two keys...

CEL and what could be the cause/solution

I'd start with a new gas cap, it's the cheapest/easiest solution.

    Great Time to buy a 2014 Mazda2

For some reason my insurance went up with my last bill. Last time it was $375ish for 6 months (comprehensive w/$500 deductible), this time it was about $405. Not sure why, it's not like the car is getting newer.

How to bend a car at the SCCA runoffs

Holy crap, I don't want to know what the bill to fix all that stuff so quickly was.

Block heater location is tough to locate

I got one installed in mine, and made a thread about it. The last post has a photo which may help: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123836196-Engine-block-heater

Missing side sill plugs -- help with part number?

Well, I know for sure that 3 of the holes on each side get used to help hold the optional side skirts on, but what the rest of them are for I have no idea.

Missing side sill plugs -- help with part number?

The bummer is that all the plugs in that link are Imperial-sized, for American cars. I managed to get the correct ones ordered through the dealer. Part number T001-56-053, "hole cover," about $6 each.

2015 Mazda 2 Assembly Started in Mexico

Interesting nugget at the bottom of that press release -- the Demio for the Japanese market is now being made at the Hofu plant instead of the Ujina (Hiroshima) plant.

    Mazda Demio emblem

Thanks for finding that part number! I had been looking for that for a long time, and eventually just bought the badges (one for each of our 2's) from Corksport.

Anyone replace their front brake pads?

OK, so two things: 1. I'm an idiot. Got in there to swap the pads and as soon as I got the caliper swung out of the way...I realized that the pads are maybe only 30% worn. I can easily get another 30k out of them. I guess I just underestimated how much pad was left when looking through the...

Missing side sill plugs -- help with part number?

Hey everyone, Was out giving the blue 2 a good fall detailing (the white 2 will be next weekend) when I noticed that somehow three of the plastic plugs underneath the side sill on the driver's side are missing. I have no idea what happened to them or when they disappeared; my wife usually...

10K on my 2 (Demio) sport, 5mt, and first long trip

Mazda, simply enough, doesn't make very much money from selling 2's. There's a much beefier margin in a 3, 6 or CX-5, especially when you consider the fancy option packages.
