I always feel Mazda 5 lack decent braking power with factory setup. I wonder if it is because they use the same brake setup from the Mazda 3 of the same platform. The lightest Mazda 3 of that gen is 2,800 lb but Mazda 5 is 3,400 lb. That's like Mazda 3 with three adult passengers sitting in the...

    Outside door handles keep breaking

My trick for preserving the door handles and weather seals around the doors is to apply a thin layer of silicon lubricant around the door frame where gets contact with the car door opening at the beginning of every winter. Most of the door and the rear hatch that get stuck is because the mating...

Mazda5 SUV interior dome lamp replacement?

Off topic: Is Mazda 5 considered a SUV in your country? I am from the US, the mazda 5 on the US websites are often categorized as minivans or wagons, I have seen hatchback a couple of times but never seen SUV before. Just curious. I think I would agree that Mazda 5 is not a SUV because it has...

It nearly broke my back just to replace a cabin filter in my 5. I think the design pitch of the dash went like this: "Let us make it compact to maximize the interior space." "What about serviceability?" "The guy got fired last week." "Ah ok, proceed."

I can't seem to find an easy way to reach the pcv valve. To me it looks like the whole front end of the engine bay will need to be pull apart. I hope you have a better method for it.

    2010 Mazda5/Premacy Sliding Door Leak

I am glad you were able to figure it out. I am also glad that when I did the wiring during the backup camera and rear dashcam installation, I chose routing the wires via the bottom of the car (going under the interior door jam cover instead of the edge of the ceiling liner). Anything that affect...

    Mazda 2020 US Sales

I am surprised Mazda is releasing the new gen of CX-3 in the US for 2021. I kept thinking CX-30 will replace CX-3 and was affirmed by the sales number difference of CX-3 between 2019 and 2020, and the CX-30 sale increase of 5 fold for Dec. 2020 comparing to Dec. 2019.

    Rattling Noise in 5th Gear

What's the mileage of the car and has the transmission fluid changed according to maintenance schedule? Is there any trouble code from OBD2 connection?

Off Topic Good deals are still around...

Before Christmas I bought an unlocked, refurbished smartphone for $109 + $11 (sim activation, required for the rebate). Got $100 rebate. Then after New Year I sold it as used for $130 online. Minus $6 shipping and $4 fees net profit was $100 (well less than that if you count the research time...

Android head unit. What do I need to know before buying?

They are dashcams. I put one facing the front and one facing the rear. I can no longer find them but I got them for $9 a piece on eBay. They are USB powered with round in-line quick connectors that are common to lots of cheap chinese dashcams. The adapter with two USB ports next to them in the...

Android head unit. What do I need to know before buying?

Winter update: it has been ~20F(~-6C) in my area and the 7in no-brand unit works just fine. Found a few photos showing the inside of the unit when I replaced its internal mic and the wiring layout back in May: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dnhmNPngN7DUHJSMA

Gas Mileage of Grand Caravan Vs Mazda5!

My 2015 Mazda 5 had ~30mpg during the summer. Then the most recent tank refill yield 25.2 mpg. With the temperature at the northeast region start to decline during winter season it will get worse mpg. Me spending longer time idling from cold morning start also contributed to lower mpg results...

May I know which portion of the car had rust? I have a 2015 model and think of rustproofing it myself before it starts to be a problem. Was the before and after photos showing the front driver's doorjam?

Have you checked the three engine mounts? I am not into car mod but I have heard this generation Mazda 5 and the equivalent Mazda 3's engine mounts go bad like clockwork.

    Transmission service beyond 100k

Change means drain and fill. Flush gets every bit of oil fluid out and replace with the new batch. If you drive fine after flushing it at 85k miles then just change it every 50k miles afterward (@135k, @185k, etc) should be fine. Of course it also depends on the type of fluid you use (stock type...

    How you doing?

Our state (RI) was doing relatively well for the first wave. Then things changed after Oct. The back to school in Sept. and general complacency contribute to the upward trend and people lost the sense of reality. So essentially while we are reaching the same new daily case level as the first...

    C-19 Storage?

Once a month? If this is not your grocery getter, consider selling it. Not only less stuff means less stress and spending, you can always get another car later and you may like it better. If the car is not going away, I would put some fuel stabilizer in the tank or only have your tank fill to...

    Mesh Grille?

I DIYed my front mesh on my old car. I went to home depot to get some chicken wire fence and then cut them to size, remove the front bumper cover and wire tie the mesh in with some drilling on the bumper cover. It looks nice and prevents the road debris from hitting the condenser radiator.

    How you doing?

I already took 2 weeks off from work and still felt burned out. My team of four people now is down to 2 and there's more work (for the whole team) than before. People need to stop using their computers and get out more. Keep your safe distance but be out so there is less work for me.
