    2nd gear stall?

clutch friction material is also pretty cold and with a really grabby clutch in the MS3, you may need some more RPMs in the cold for the clutch to grab properly, causing the usual herky-jerky motions just like the "middle ground" clutch position where (with any manual trans) in first gear, it...

    Design's Long Term Ownership/Build Thread

To improve the car at it's limits, get at least a rear sway bar upgrade. If you want to reduce bump steer and have better turn-in and less roll, get both front and rear sway bars. Hotchkis set works for me. With the coilovers, it would be awesome.

    Reliability of bone stock MS3?

Stick with 2008 + 1/2 and/or 2009 MS3's with low miles if possible. Should be no problems. First model years of any car will have the issues taken care of during the following years. I got my 2009 8/09 and have no problems. Interior and exterior is nice in 1st gens IMHO. Electric stearing on...

    Catch can inquiry!!!!!!!

Ebay has tons of catch cans there. So long as they hold the boost pressure and have some sort of EZ drain connection, you should be good to go. No need to spend a bundle on a can. So long as it is SEALED well. Instead of using a 2nd PCV valve, use a "check-valve" that can be positioned in any...

CS 2010 MZ3 Intakes w/ Color Anodized MAF Housings

Any chance of a cryo-coating (single or multi-stage) on the turbo inlet pipe to keep the heat induction lower since Corksport TIPs aren't silicone? I'm on the edge with the Corksport SRI/combo TIP intake type...... with a modified airbox cover (either my own or CS's)..... Also, the MAFs seem...

Automobile Mag - compares 2010 MS3 to base model

Apparently the evaluating person/team doesn't like torque steer... Geez, that's WHY I bought my '09 MS3. Low end torque.... Apparently they should learn to drive better at Automobile Magazine. FWD + power = torque steer. The lower the power band, the more the torque steer. Deal with it, dudes...

    boost quesiton.

If you have one, your Aeroforce scan gauge will show the boost level as well. If it's lower than "normal", there is more than likely a leak somewhere. Finding the leak point will be the hard part. Soapy spray bottle for the win....and you will still need to pressurize the system while you spray...

    Ms3 Mpg

I don't use the trip computer and run it by logging "full-to-empty" odometer mileage at fill ups every 1.5 weeks or so. So, for the "full-span" of the gauge from full to yellow fuel light on (with about a gallon or 1.5 gallons left), I get an average of 24.5 to 25.7 MPG on mixed driving, in-town...

Problem with my MS3 (Vid inside: Timing chain? Heat Shield?) HELP!

No TSB made on that as of yet? If it's that common, Mazda should post the Tech Service Bulletin someplace. If one exists, please put in link.

    Worried about Knock

compilation of threads regarding PTB and connecting rods I've compiled a list of threads on this forum to help resolve at least some of the issues. Run a search for more data pertinent to the subject if you are worried about PTB and the connecting rods, or concerned about running high boost at...

    boost quesiton.

More than likely you have a boost leak. Make/buy a boost leak tester and take a boost leak-down test to see how long it will hold pressure using an air compressor. If it loses pressure quickly, then spray around clamps at various points. Sometime boost leaks will occur on worn valve cover...

    Power Windows Stick

What I found that works just as well on the rubber seals is tire dressing. Keeps the rubber soft and doesn't do it any harm. Note that I live in Calif. so colder climates may be not so giving with cold seals and tire dressing.

Zoom Zoom BOOM - I joined the blown up club.

This makes total sense to me. As an owner of a Stage3 highly modded SRT-4 and a stock MS3, I find that the stock MS3 and it's grippy clutch would develop much more torque at low RPMs than even my modded SRT-4. The combined torque stress with boost at low RPMs and the inherent weakness in the...

    clunking sound after I shift

If that's the case then coming off a freeway off-ramp and wanting to downshift from 6th into 4th (normally OK) but missing fourth and trying to push it into 2nd (not OK) would clunk.... Anyone want to try this and report back on "clunking"....... Seems to be easy enough to test, not that I'd...

    Dealership problems..... Help!!!

I somehow find it strange that a credit union won't lend LESS than a base of $20K. I would also look at what your payments are, and for how long, multiply them all up to come up with what the "real" interest is on the loan. $250/mon for 12 months is $3,000/yr. Depending upon how much you put...

is the mazdaspeed tech package really worth it?

TigerDirect can give you a Navigon 2100Max with lifetime traffic for around $79. Shove that either onto your dash, or clip it to the AC vents with commonly used adapters. Very nice GPS, shows exit signs and lanes to be in, and you get lifetime traffic. And you can use the touch screen on it from...

Installed Aeroforce Scan Gauge with Vent Gauge Pod

Bringing thread back from dead. Curious as to whether the manifold pressure setting really is "true boost" psi. Owner of the CX-7, does the boost setting on the scangauge really go to 15.5 psi for the 2.3L turbo? The specs for the scangauge say absolute manifold pressure, with no reference to...

    My Short Shift Plate

Thanks for the quick update. Let me know via PM or other when vendor status is approved. The shifter slop and throw was the only stock item I've never liked a whole lot, but didn't want to get a Cobb or TWM replacement, since they have their own set of problems.

    My Short Shift Plate

Looks to be a pretty nice job there JBarone. Once vendor status confirmed, I'll consider this. Never did like the shifter feel / slop and throw length on the MS3. You mentioned that it takes out 35% - 40% on the throw distance, what about the amount of "force" increase you perceive when shifting...
